Overview of Job

The Hygiene Assistant's primary responsibility is to provide support and assistance to Doctors, Hygienists, and Dental Assistants in the clinical areas of the office. Help minimize unnecessary wait times in the hygiene bay while aiding in providing quality care to the patient.

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Successful completion of a dental assistant licensing program desired but not necessary.
  • Possess active state x-ray certification desired.
  • Comprehensive understanding of dental instruments.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong knowledge of computer programs such as MS Office.
Key Competencies and Characteristics
  • Prepares treatment room for patients and prepares patients for dental treatment.
  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area.
  • Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies, pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
  • Fabricates restorations; cleans and polishes removable appliances.
  • Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification.
  • Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
  • Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
Requirements

Education and Training
  • On the job training and additional certification may be required based on state requirements.
  • High school graduate or GED Equivalent.
  • Team Player.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced customer-focused environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

FLSA Status: Hourly

Reports to: Operations Manager
