Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Inc. (GLFHC) is a multi-site, mission-driven, non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to a culturally diverse population throughout the Merrimack Valley. Nationally recognized as a leader in community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), GLFHC has clinical sites in Lawrence, Methuen, and Haverhill and is the sponsoring organization for the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency program.

GLFHC is currently seeking an Accounting Manager.Under the direction of the Director of Finance, supervise the processing, maintenance, and reporting of the financial information of the Health Center in accordance with policies established by the Board of Directors, management and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards:

Supervisory

  • Demonstrate the ability to make decisions, take appropriate actions, and follow tasks through to completion within a fast paced environment.
  • Motivate and supervise staff to ensure that performance standards are met or exceeded while meeting Finance department deadlines.
  • Perform regular reviews of direct report needs and performance.
  • Develop efficient operating procedures while ensuring consistency with overall Health Center policies.
  • Act as a role model in demonstrating customer service standards of the Health Center.
  • Respond cooperatively to managers and staff members in other departments to promote teamwork.
General Accounting
  • Oversee, review and approve subsidiary journals and source documentation used to support all transactions entered into the general ledger system.
  • Supervise and coordinate all activities necessary to close fiscal periods in accordance with the monthly closing schedule. Ensure that all journal entries are entered and posted appropriately.
  • Supervise and manage all activities necessary to ensure the completion of monthly reconciliation of General Ledger Balance Sheet accounts ensuring that all adjustments are made in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly financial statements in total, by program and by department. Present actual activity in comparison to budget and provide explanations for significant variances.
  • Contribute to the preparation of periodic audits, regulatory reports, tax filings, and informational summaries. Prepare detailed financial analyses and reports as requested by management.
Accounts Payable Management
  • Provide supervision to the Accounts Payable Coordinator to ensure that all transactions are processed in a timely and accurate manner. Responsible for training, development and performance evaluation of the Accounts Payable Coordinator.
  • Review and approve all Accounts Payable vouchers and batch edits to ensure compliance to internal control policies and GAAP requirements.
  • Prepare detailed financial analyses and studies, as requested, for use by management.
  • Perform special accounting and finance related projects as assigned.
  • Travel between sites will be required.
Qualifications:

Experience
  • Seven to Ten years in a progressively responsible accounting or finance position, preferably in the Healthcare, Non-Profit or Public Accounting fields.
  • Five to seven years of supervisory responsibilities.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; combination of education and experience will be considered.
