JOB SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

Oversees and provides network design services that meet or exceed the needs of a telecommunications company, ensuring adherence to departmental policies and procedures; coordinate and define network requirements (i.e. design, configure, install, etc.) to include coordinating with other groups within and outside the company to determine the scope of objectives and proposed networking configurations. Oversee and develop detailed implementation plans to accommodate network growth, security and enhancements. Design network performance reports detailing network status, etc. for upper management in an accurate and timely manner. Analyze data traffic patterns within the network infrastructure, detecting operational problems and recommending improvements to ensure optimal performance; proactively identify symptoms and instabilities in a timely and accurate manner including performing analysis and capacity planning.

Responsible for managing network planning and capacity to ensure that the organization's network resources are used effectively and can scale as needed. Responsible for supervising all day-to-day activities and projects. Serves as escalation support for complex troubles and orders. Provides scheduled updates to Management for network health and reliability.

Provides technical product and services training and support to departments within the company. Develops training materials, methods, and procedures. Provides 24 hours on-call support as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises planning, design, evaluations, and optimization of core network services.
•Manages day-to-day activities of Network Planning.
•Manage all deliverables, schedules, and costs for all Network Planning projects.
•Provide technical training for departments within the company.
•Service as an escalation for complex troubles and orders.
•Other duties as directed by management.

EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a 2-year College Degree in a related field and 6-8 years of professional level experience; or a 4-year College Degree in a related field and 4-6 years of professional level related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related experience.
Associate IT Certification required (i.e. minimum of CCNA, preferred CCNP) or must be obtained within 3656 days of the start date.
  • CCNA (minimum, CCNP preferred) with 5-10 years of experience in large IP network design, deployment, and operation.
  • Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of routers and switches, LAN/WANs, Metro Ethernet, MPLS, Frame-Relay, PC and client/server networking, firewall administration, cable modem plant, IP/ATM routing and switching, ADSL, SONET, FTTP, SIP, VoDSL and IPTV.
  • In-depth understanding of IP networking and traffic engineering including routing protocols (BGP, MP-BGP, OSPF, RSVP, RIP, etc.), and advanced networking technologies, MPLS, VPN, etc.
  • In-depth understanding of IP network QoS techniques (DiffServ, RSVP, Queuing, Traffic Policing/Shaping) and deployment practice in large networks.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations governing rural telephone company fiscal practices is a plus.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
