The Human Resources Generalist works closely with the Chief of Staff to oversee day to day Human Resources functions, ensuring effective and efficient operations in alignment with the overall strategic vision of the organization while remaining in compliance with industry best practices and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain legal and confidential Human Resources information and employment files.
  • Assist with benefit open enrollment and answer staff questions regarding the GSHPA benefit package.
  • Serve as backup for new employee recruitment, onboarding, and HR orientation.
  • Coordinate the council's performance management program; ensure timely completion of performance appraisals.
  • Coordinate the termination and offboarding process for departing employees.
  • Conduct employment verification requests.
  • Support supervisors in answering HR policy/procedure questions.
  • Counsel and join supervisors in performance improvement/corrective meetings with staff, as requested by executive leadership.
  • Work with Chief of Staff to propose, draft, update, and publish personnel policies and procedures.
  • Remain current on and interpret employment law.
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll for approval and submission.
  • Review and maintain quarterly and annual payroll reports including 941 and W-2.
  • Complete required paperwork/follow up for all legal claims including but not limited to worker compensation and unemployment.
  • Oversee statutory leave and accommodation requests by gathering initial information, providing recommendations to executive leadership, and completing follow up actions as needed.
  • Provide information as needed to update council's compensation program: research/analyze information for compensation and benefit surveys, develop/update position descriptions, complete salary surveys.
  • Remain current with industry trends, and best practices.
  • Process benefit enrollment changes: review and reconcile invoices and answer questions on claims, working with third party administrator as needed.
  • Prepare department, government, GSUSA reports for review by the CFO.
  • Provide professional, quality customer service to all customers (i.e. donors, members, volunteers, staff and other community contacts.)
  • Handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Girl Scout mission by representing GSHPA in a positive manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Council-wide initiatives and/or cross functional teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field required.
  • Two years of work experience in a human resources position.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR Certification desired.
  • Excellent PC skills, including proficiency using Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams), Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and HRIS applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Effectively identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • Use sound judgement and critical thinking skills when decision making.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Handle and maintain sensitive and confidential information and documentation.
  • Coach employees and supervisors through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
  • Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages in a professional manner.
  • Pass and maintain required background clearances.
  • Adapt well to changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license; access to reliable transportation required.
  • Efficiently operate standard office equipment.
  • Travel throughout the council as needed.
  • Lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Sitting, standing or walking for moderate period of time is required.
