Overview
The Senior Manager, REIT Accounting provides accounting and compliance support for the real estate finance division of RMR. This position requires close coordination with various corporate department executives and cross functional groups including: payroll, treasury, accounts payable, and management information systems. In addition, this position will work closely with external lenders and loan servicers.
Responsibilities
Manage month-end close process, including the preparation of consolidated financial statements and analysis of financial results.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
Timely detail review workpapers prepared by the portfolio accountant.
Prepare workpapers and post journal entries for certain higher risk areas.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and required disclosures for SEC filings.
Assist in the preparation of variance analysis and quarterly management reporting packages.
Review weekly cash forecasts.
Prepare debt compliance reporting on a monthly/quarterly basis.
Manage internal and external audit requests on a quarterly and annual basis.
Assist in the preparation of board and committee materials.
Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting and a strong record of success in academic and work environments.
7 or more years of progressive accounting experience; mortgage REIT or specialty finance industry experience preferred.
Public accounting experience and CPA (preferred).
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Yardi (preferred).
Demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures with ability to research and recommend appropriate treatments.
Ability to propose and lead the application of new methodologies that satisfy systematic and scalable processes.
Highly organized and able to handle multiple deliverables at one time.
Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively communicate with business partners and management regarding accounting related matters.
