Sr. Accountant

Our client, a Fortune 100 Credit Union, is looking to add a Sr. Accountant to their team in Vienna, VA. This will be a hybrid (2 days/week onsite & 3 days remote) role.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive accounting activities, including reviewing and analyzing financial statements, ledgers, reconciliations, and related accounts to ensure adherence to industry standards.
  • Manage monthly close processes by reviewing and monitoring entries to the Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and Income Statement accounts, and posting necessary adjustments.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliation, analytics, and variance analysis, providing thorough supporting documentation.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Accounting Standard Codification (ASC) in the preparation of financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and ASC standards in the preparation of financial statements for NFCR.
  • Identify and evaluate simplifying assumptions and accounting methods, detect incorrect applications of GAAP/ASC, quantify impacts, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct detailed analysis to identify, isolate, and resolve discrepancies, contributing to quality control and process improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate, resolve, and/or escalate complex discrepancies, data entry errors, and out-of-balance situations; prepare and present actionable recommendations or policy change proposals to prevent financial losses.
  • Support internal and external audit inquiries through comprehensive research and documentation.
  • Perform variance analysis and generate reports with justifications.
  • Leverage broad and specialized knowledge of financial accounting and management techniques in analyzing and reporting financial information.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation with a minimum of five years of progressive, relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in public or private accounting with a focus on complex accounting treatments and issue resolution.
  • Proven ability to research technical accounting issues and recommend appropriate applications and implementations of accounting principles.
  • Significant proficiency in data querying, research, and reporting.
  • Experience in managing complex projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to convey findings and conclusions clearly and concisely.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with precision and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of presenting complex financial information clearly.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
