PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

We are seeking entry level hands-on Systems Engineer who will effectively work in cross-functional engineering teams. The incumbent will support systems engineering related activities on Sustaining programs. The candidate will play an important role in the planning and execution of sustaining projects at NxStage Medical. The candidate will need necessary experience/skills to work with software, hardware and quality teams to implement efficient solutions to address complex issues. This role will require strong engineering, analytical, troubleshooting and testing skills. You will support the capture and tracking of technical risk parameters, design risks, and track to risk management strategies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor or as delegated to a cross-functional team leader.
  • Provide hands-on support for engineering development, perform feasibility studies for proposed design, systems or processes.
  • Contributes to the generation of ideas and potential inventions to be used in new products.
  • Support Risk Analyses, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities.
  • Develops and gives presentations dealing with projects, proposals, designs and project status updates.
  • Hands-on involvement with fabrication, processing, and develops detailed engineering specifications.
  • Draft work instructions (WI), SOPs, engineering reports, drawings and necessary documentation in order to release design changes.
  • Under supervision, sets up, adjusts and operates production equipment and analysis instruments when assigned.
  • Trained in and maintains good documentation practices for all data forms, protocols, engineering and feasibility reports, and laboratory notebooks.
  • Will escalate difficult/complex issues to supervisor/manager for resolution, as required.
  • Follow specific, detailed instructions on all work along with priorities from the direct supervisor or cross-functional team leader.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams on new product development and manufacturing problem-solving efforts.
  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Foster on-going learning through available means (e.g. trade publications, literature, papers, courses, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • 0 - 2 years' related experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiar with medical device development and regulatory processes.
  • Understanding of system design, electronics, mechanical and software integration.
  • Experience with software programs such as Phyton, Labview and/or Matlab.
