Highly acclaimed chef-driven restaurant group is seeking a versatile Human Resources Director with a strong restaurant background to lead the department and proactively support and develop employees in the field. The HR Director will be responsible for managing every aspect of the HR department, including but not limited to policy & procedure, legal compliance, and proactive field training. This role will oversee and be supported by four members of the HR team specializing in compliance, benefits, and payroll; however this person will also need to have a very strong presence in the field in order to collaborate with, train, and develop management and employees across the group’s diverse portfolio of restaurants on HR-related matters.

This is not a hybrid role , and the HR Director will report to and work out of the corporate office when not in the field.

The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization in order to successfully balance employee needs with business objectives and create integrated solutions. A true passion for working with and developing people is a must

Strong knowledge of California labor laws and regulations in addition to restaurant/hospitality industry experience is required.

HR Director Responsibilities:

Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives that align with the organization's goals and objectives. Manage the HR department, including personnel in compliance, benefits administration, and payroll, ensuring efficient and effective operations. Encourage ongoing development of the Human Resources personnel through education and cross training. Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures, including employee handbooks, to ensure compliance with California labor laws and regulations. Provide necessary education and materials to managers and employees including manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports. Review all materials thoroughly annually along with periodical audits to ensure compliance. Provide hands-on support and guidance to restaurant managers and employees in the field on HR policies, procedures, and best practices. Lead the training and development programs for employees, focusing on areas such as customer service, safety, diversity, and inclusion. Monitor and analyze HR metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement, providing recommendations to enhance employee engagement and retention. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior management on HR-related matters, providing insights and recommendations to support decision-making. Prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested, to track strategic goal accomplishments, including all matters related to compliance. Participate in management and company team meetings as well as attend other meetings and seminars. Oversee recruitment efforts to ensure that the organization is effectively and efficiently sourcing and selecting the right candidates. Develop and drive talent management strategies to ensure effective staffing alignment with the needs of the business. Create systems to attract talent, identify critical talent needs, develop core competencies and corresponding development opportunities, and engage leadership in succession planning. Mitigate legal risk to the organization through proactive training and education, clear systems and processes for managing conflicts with and between employees, handling and investigating complaints of harassment/discrimination and other unjust practice allegations. Along with the finance department design and implement a competitive compensation system and benefit package to attract and retain staff. Partner with leadership to regularly review compensation and benefits market data, monitor pay practices and proactively address issue, manage benefit broker resources and benefits enrollment process, manage leave administration and the payroll function. Oversee annual benefit open enrollment, orientations, and other benefit training. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing a company's workers' compensation program. Implement all matters of the program, including claim investigations, settlements, and litigation. Assist with information gathering for annual filings, measurement period, eligibility determination, compliance testing, government filings, and other duties related to the health and welfare plan administration and Affordable Care Act. Lead the implementation of company safety and health programs. Monitor the tracking of OSHA-required data. Perform other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum 6+ years of Human Resources experience with at least 4 years’ experience in a leadership position (Human Resources Director, VP of Human Resources, or comparable role) Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master's degree preferred Experience within restaurants or related hospitality field is

required

, preferably within a multi-unit organization Must have experience working in the state of California; extensive knowledge and application of CA labor laws and regulations is required Proven ability to effectively interact with all organizational levels in a multicultural environment and build strong, trusted relationships Demonstrated experience working as a trusted advisor and handling sensitive/confidential information with utmost integrity Experience supervising and developing staff. Experience implementing strategies and systems for talent management, compensation and benefits, and HR technology. Strong business acumen and leadership abilities. Ability to listen and probe to understand underlying needs and/or root cause of an issue. Ability to provide thoughtful, progressive and strategic guidance. Expertise in analysis, critical decision making, project management, and process improvement. Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems. Proven track record of developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that drive business results. Experience managing a diverse team and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively prioritize competing demands. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR system applications. Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle. Must be able to travel to satellite office locations as needed. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.

Compensation Package:

Base Salary in the $125k-150k range DOE Bonus Potential 100% HMO Medical Coverage PTO + Sick Leave Company Cell Phone Car Allowance
