This is an entry-level, professional, full-time position with the City’s Municipal Court. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Clerk Supervisor, this position maintains all court records and assists the Judge, Prosecutor, attorneys, and customers on the telephone and in person at the window. The position requires specialized knowledge of court operations, policies, procedures, and state statutes/laws. Work involves judicial and financial record keeping, requiring the exercise of judgment within established departmental guidelines and policies. Responsibilities include: Receiving and processing various legal motions, requests, and payment transactions requiring knowledge of legal codes, payment and charge codes, regulations, and department and city policies. Understanding state statutes/laws and explaining applicable legal options to defendants. Providing defendants with applicable options to resolve criminal cases. Receiving, validating, and processing driver safety course requests and deferred court orders. Receiving and processing various legal motions from attorneys and defendants. Receiving, processing, and posting cash bonds, bail bonds, and attorney bonds in accordance with state law and the presiding judge’s standing orders. Processing payments accurately and timely to defendants’ cases. Performing insurance validation in accordance with applicable state law and judicial orders. Conducting extensive data entry not limited to citations, affidavits, sworn complaints, incident reports, etc. Effectively and efficiently processing cases while providing superior customer service. Conducting citation import and auditing (adherence to state statute requirements for various offenses). Quality control for DSC, probations, payment plans, extensions of time to pay, community service, MIPs, courtroom cases, and trial cases. Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions from administration and judiciary. Making mathematical computations and tabulations rapidly and accurately for court orders. Reviewing and processing appeal bond paperwork as regulated by state statute. Processing and reconciling daily cash receipts and balancing cash drawer daily. Processing juvenile cases as outlined by state statute. Monitoring and responding to department voice mailbox. Submitting various forms to the Texas Department of Public Safety. As assigned, responsible for juror check-in and summons and/or event monitoring; processing jail and bonding paperwork. Clearing warrants and holds from the Police Department and surrounding agencies; preparing hold notices on defendants as requested. Performing all other duties as assigned by the Deputy Court Administrator and the Director of Court Services. Subject to 24-hour recall. Minimum Requirements: Clerk I - High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate, 3 years of general business and clerical experience, and 0-2 years of court-related professional experience required. Knowledge of court operations, policies, and procedures preferred. Strong organizational skills, typing 40 wpm, ten key by touch, and computer proficiency required. Level I Court Clerk certification preferred or the ability to obtain Level I certification within first year of employment. Clerk II – Associate degree and 2 years of court-related experience or 3 years of court-related experience. Level I certification, Certified Court Clerk I, required.
