Resident Behavioral Health Aide

WHAT YOU WILL DO: This position is responsible for providing a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric care to patients that have been discharged from Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, Managed Health Plans, Palomar Hospital and Tri-City Hospital, to achieve a more adaptive level of physical, psychological and social functioning while in the program. Working within a comprehensive team of skilled professionals the Resident Behavioral Health Aide engages with the recuperative care team to get the patient back to self-sufficiency. This position is also responsible for the safe and timely transportation of clients to and from various appointments and ensuring facilities are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.Provides behavioral services to patients under the general supervision of registered nurses and other qualified personnelObserves and assesses patients' physical condition, behavior and responses to treatment and reporting any significant changes to appropriate supervisor and other appropriate staff membersPerforms tasks that are within the scope of his/her education preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of the Recuperative Care ProgramAssists with the coordination of services including planning, monitoring, documenting and conducting evaluations of services to patientsUtilizes behavioral and physical techniques to prevent injury to patients and other and to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for clients; responds appropriately to crisis situationsKeeps hallways and common areas clear of debris, wheelchairs, etc.Ensures facilities are maintained in clean and orderly fashionOrients new patients to their room, facility, laundry, cafeteria, etc.Assists patients with making medical appointments and any transportation necessaryAssist passengers on and off vehicle, including those with physical limitationsSecure passengers' wheelchairs and assist disabled passengers in and out of the vehicleObserve traffic laws and regulationsEnsure clients have safely entered medical facility before leavingMaintain and update transportation calendar; schedule and select routes and travel times so clients arrive for appointments on time, and are picked up within a reasonable period of time after appointments are completedMaintain contact with clients and staff for appointment and schedule changesMaintain order and discipline in the vehicle; retain documentation of maintenance recordsReport problematic client behavior or disruption of service to supervisorLock and secure vehicle when leaving unattended; check to ensure no passengers are still in the vehicle before leaving unattendedMaintain daily record of mileage and number of passengers transportedClean and service the vehicle with fuel; report vehicle deficiencies immediately for repair and maintenanceEnsures the confidentiality of patient information and health recordsParticipates in all staff meetings and trainings Perform additional duties as assigned EMPLOYMENT BENEFITSPaid Time Off - Three weeks to startPaid Holidays - 13 scheduledFlexible Work SchedulesMedical, Dental, and Vision InsuranceAD&D / Group Life InsuranceFlexible Spending Accounts - Medical and Dependent CareMatched 401(k) Retirement PlanEarly Release DaysWork Anniversary BonusesTuition Reimbursement and Public Service Loan Forgiveness EligibilityEmployee Assistance Plan (EAP)Home Ownership Assistance ProgramCasual Work EnvironmentProfessional Growth and Career Development OpportunitiesRequirementsEXPERIENCE / EDUCATIONKnowledge of alcohol and other drug recovery field preferredExperience working with severely mentally ill, medically fragile, and homeless populations preferred
