Position Summary
The Patient Navigator is a member of our close knit MaineHealth Comprehensive Addiction Medicine care team who helps patients navigate the healthcare system and access the resources and services they need. Your primary role is to guide and support patients in understanding and accessing healthcare services, such as finding healthcare providers, scheduling appointments, understanding insurance coverage, and connecting to community resources, among other things. As a Patient Navigator you will often assist patients in overcoming barriers to healthcare, such as language barriers, transportation issues, or lack of knowledge about available services. You will provide information, education, and advocacy to empower patients to make informed decisions about their health. Substance use treatment experience preferred but not required.
In this role you will have room to grow as we are a fast paced team and a growing office. We are looking for someone who is flexible, willing to go with the flow and will be supportive to our colleagues. Our team treats complex patients and all substance use disorders. We offer walk-in hours for our patients every day from 9 AM - noon so an all hands on deck mindset will benefit you in this position.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, human services, sociology, counseling, behavioral science or a related field.
- License/Certifications: N/A
- Experience: N/A
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
