SGA provides a wide range of social services in some of Chicago's most challenged and consistently underserved communities and creates long-term and community-wide change.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Conduct outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups.
  • Form relationships with high-risk youth in the community.
  • Maintain a caseload of 15 youth.
  • Report to the SC Program Coordinatorurate case notes in CitySpan weekly, and/or as required by supervisor.
  • Execute program activities to the highest of qualities.
  • Engage high risk to change course the inclination to act violently and to invest in redirecting their trajectory of life goals.
  • Work with team members to coordinate an inclusive and immediate strategic response when violent activity occurs.
  • Assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups.
  • Actively participate in weekly staff meetings and agency convenings, as assigned.
  • Notification and report to SCAN Program Coordinator to keep him/her informed of all relevant community activities.
  • Recruit and mentor, a caseload of persons at high risk of involvement in shootings and killings.
  • Provide participants with support and referrals to programs and opportunities in the community (e.g., job programs, GED, drug treatment, and mentoring.)
  • Ensure referrals, program/service enrollment for participants, and changes in participant status is documented in ETO/case files, within 48hours of occurrence.
  • Facilitate violence reduction and life skills workshops, as needed.
  • Attend all mandatory program trainings and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Notification and report to S Program Coordinator to keep him/her informed of all relevant community activities.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

•Bachelor's Degree in Social Service or related field is required.

•Master's Degree in Social Service or related field is preferred.

Experience:
  • Extensive experience working with high-risk youth and gang members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience and/or training in crisis intervention
  • Residence within the target area preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes late evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • No pending criminal cases and no prior convictions for sexual assault, child abuse or domestic violence
  • Committed to working toward positive community change.

KEY COMPETENCIES

•Proficient in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

•Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.

•Must be able to frequently move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

•Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.

•At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs. for various classrooms and event's needs.

•Frequently moves in outdoor weather conditions.
