Summary:

The Payroll Accountant position will be responsible for preparing, documenting, and conducting a self-review of the payroll process for two companies with 500+ employees across 29 states and approximately 120 local taxing jurisdictions.

The payroll process includes all semi-monthly pay cycles, bonus, commissions, and off cycles for employees leveraging interfaces with a third-party vendor.

This position will assist the Payroll Accounting Manager with various standard accounting journal entries for payroll and benefit expenses as well as account reconciliations. Ideal incumbent will be a highly organized and detailed member of a two-person payroll team.

Major Responsibilities:

Prepare payroll for 500+ employees in two separate companies. Ensure confidentiality for all payroll information.
Assist Payroll Accounting Manager to ensure compliance with all taxing jurisdictions for employee locations. Includes completing new state or local tax applications and discussions with agency to resolve issues.
Review payroll updates interfaced from Human Resources and input other payroll information which may include bonuses, pay adjustments for new hires and terminations, tax adjustments, benefit adjustments and payment to non-exempt employees based on approved timesheets. Monitor and update a payroll pending list and perform self-review and reconciliation of payroll prior to Manager payroll approval.
Develop an understanding of the Companys 401K/Roth plan rules and activity. Assist the Payroll Accounting Manager to ensure the accuracy of data reported to the third-party administrator on a timely basis each pay and assist with 401k year end reporting/audit preparation.
Assist the Payroll Accounting Manager with review and reconciliation of general ledger payroll accounts monthly. Also, assist with posting general ledger entries, and preparation of schedules and requests for monthly, quarterly and year end close.
Assist the Payroll Accounting Manager with creation of a Payroll Processing Manual and maintenance of Payroll Department Policies and Procedures. Assist employees with access to employee self-service and updating job aids as appropriate.
Perform other ad hoc requests.
Minimum Requirements:

(experience, education, etc.)

Bachelors Degree required with a major in accounting.
Minimum of 3 years payroll experience.
Must be organized with a high attentiveness to detail and accuracy.
Must be self-motivated with the ability to operate effectively in a team environment as well as able to work independently.
Strong customer service and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
Must be located in proximity to Cleveland, Ohio offices.
Experience with Workday and OneSource Virtual or a third-party payroll administrator is preferred.
Knowledge of Ohio and Pennsylvania tax local laws is a plus.
Audit background is a plus but not required.
System user testing experience is a plus.
