**OVERVIEW**

We are seeking a motivated chemical engineer to join our rapidly growing company. This position will report to the VP of Chemistry and will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in the scaling of our novel chemistry from the bench to the pilot plant scale. Our technology employs an oxidative process for producing oligosaccharides from the polysaccharides found in raw biomaterials and waste streams. This role will be responsible for designing and validating a kilo-scale pilot plant. The process engineer will also focus on optimizing yield, purity, and efficiency..

The candidate will be required to work independently, but also with the internal engineering, process chemistry, and analytical teams. Furthermore, the chemical engineer will be the primary point-of-contact for interacting with consultants and contract manufacturing facilities. Previous experience with carbohydrates is desired; however, successful candidates should have experience working with proteins, lipids or other biomolecules in cGMP environments. Experience in food, supplement, or pharmaceutical production are all suitable for this position. A highly exceptional candidate would have experience with producing and isolating oligosaccharides at the pilot and/or production scale.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

* Work with partners, engineering firms, and consultants to design and implement a kilogram scale pilot plant.

* Develop and execute processes for purifying and isolating oligosaccharides.

* Work with a team of engineers to scale-up our proprietary technology.

* Support product development teams in regulatory aspects of oligosaccharide production

* Oversee unit operations and troubleshooting activities.

* Authoring reports and patents on development activities.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

* Bachelors or masters degree in chemical engineering. Other fields may be considered if the applicant has demonstrated experience in process engineering. 2-7 years of industry process experience required.

* Experience working with biological molecules (lipids, proteins), oligosaccharides or carbohydrates or high fiber feedstocks preferred.

* Familiarity working with natural products.

* Experience working in cGMP environments.

* Biopharma or food engineering experience highly recommended.

* Have a cooperative and get it done mentality and entrepreneurial spirit.

* Six Sigma, Lean, or other process software experience.

* Demonstrated experience in scaling bench-scale processes.

* Capable of efficiently communicating scientific results through verbal and oral platforms.

* A collaborative approach and strong critical thinking capabilities.
