OVERVIEW

We are looking for a dynamic and skilled chemical process specialist to become a vital part of our expanding organization. This role will report directly to the VP of Chemistry and will take charge of a team of engineers dedicated to transitioning our innovative chemistry from laboratory settings to pilot plant operations. Our cutting-edge technology utilizes an oxidative method to derive oligosaccharides from the polysaccharides present in raw biomaterials and waste streams. The individual in this position will be tasked with the design and validation of a kilo-scale pilot facility, with a strong emphasis on enhancing yield, purity, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously while also collaborating closely with internal engineering, process chemistry, and analytical teams. Additionally, this specialist will serve as the primary liaison for interactions with consultants and contract manufacturing entities. While prior experience with carbohydrates is preferred, candidates with a background in proteins, lipids, or other biomolecules within cGMP frameworks will also be considered. Experience in the food, supplement, or pharmaceutical production sectors is highly relevant. Exceptional candidates may possess direct experience in the production and isolation of oligosaccharides at both pilot and production scales.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with partners, engineering firms, and consultants to design and execute a kilogram-scale pilot facility.
  • Develop and implement processes for the purification and isolation of oligosaccharides.
  • Work alongside a team of engineers to scale our proprietary technology effectively.
  • Support product development teams in navigating the regulatory landscape of oligosaccharide production.
  • Oversee unit operations and address troubleshooting challenges.
  • Contribute to the authorship of reports and patents related to development activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering; other relevant fields may be considered based on demonstrated process engineering experience.
  • 2-7 years of industry experience in process engineering is required.
  • Experience with biological molecules (lipids, proteins), oligosaccharides, or carbohydrates, as well as high-fiber feedstocks, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with natural products is advantageous.
  • Experience in cGMP environments is essential.
  • Background in biopharma or food engineering is highly recommended.
  • A cooperative mindset and entrepreneurial spirit are crucial.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean, or other process improvement methodologies is beneficial.
  • Proven experience in scaling bench-scale processes is necessary.
  • Ability to communicate scientific findings effectively through both verbal and written channels.
  • A collaborative approach coupled with strong critical thinking skills is essential.
