Field Customer Service Representative I

Open: August 07 2024 Close: Salary: Wage Range: $21.88 - $27.93 Job Description This position works under the general supervision of the Meter Services Supervisor and is responsible for reading water meter routes, maintaining reading schedules for on-time customer billings, assists with Field Customer Service Representative II duties when needed and any related work as required.This position has potential for further advancement within the Water Board and the water industry in general. As a Field Customer Services Representative I, you will obtain knowledge of how a water metering system functions and why it is essential in serving the needs of the community. Job Responsibilities Reads water meters regularly and accurately records findings Does minor meter repair in field, such as replacing meters, replacing meter lids, boxes. Keeps meter boxes cleaned out and cuts brush as needed Codes meters into existing meter reading routes Maintains a positive, team-oriented working relationship with Water Board staff; maintains a professional appearance; and maintains a courteous attitude toward customers and the general public. Follows all federal and Oregon OSHA safety rules and procedures for work areas Must possess a valid driver’s license upon hire; obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of hire and have acceptable driving record. Provides assistance in other functional areas to other personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate; maintains knowledge and proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility; maintains work areas and vehicle in a clean and orderly manner Qualifications MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION – Graduation from a senior high school or GED. MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES – Considerable knowledge of the geography and street locations of the area served by the Water Board; ability to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team‑oriented working relationships with supervisors and co-workers; ability to maintain a professional appearance and a positive, courteous, and helpful attitude toward customers and the general public; ability to write legibly; ability to make simple arithmetical computations; ability to walk for long periods of time and work out-of-doors under varying weather conditions; ability to bend frequently and lift heavy meter lids SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES – Must possess a valid driver’s license upon hire; obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of hire and have acceptable driving record DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS – Experience in utility customer service operations and/or meter reading. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to drive a vehicle and frequently get in and out of the vehicle, stand, sit, bend, stoop, walk long distances, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The position requires mobility. Some duties are physically demanding, requiring the occasional moving/lifting of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Repetitive movement/lifting of materials weighing 20 pounds may consume up to 80 percent or more of the work period. Activity and types of duties performed require manual dexterity and coordination. The majority of duties take place outside buildings with exposure to all types of weather conditions on a year‑round basis, including exposure to traffic, dirt, oil, grease, fumes, noise, and chemicals. Requires mobility on varying terrains. Entry into confined spaces is required on an infrequent basis. Position is subject to emergency on‑call response after normal duty hours on a rotational and as-needed basis. May require working on weekends and holidays.
