Sustainability Project Manager

General Purpose of Position: The Sustainability Project Manager will be responsible for working with administrators, teachers, non-certificated staff, parents, and community members to shepherd the district's vision for environmental sustainability. This position will also require an individual to have a keen understanding of areas related sustainability education in grade K-12 schools. The successful candidate will have experience in environmental sustainability efforts, best-practices in class lessons related to sustainability and school-wide programs to further enhance our green initiatives, and community engagement.

Minimum Requirements of the Position:
  1. A teaching or administrative certificate preferred but not required
  2. Possess a passion and knowledge for the development and implementation of sustainability practices in the district
  3. Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people;
  4. Demonstrate a good rapport with colleagues, administrators, parents and students
  5. Demonstrate creativity and a focused vision
  6. Possess an eagerness to learn and be willing to attend out of district workshops and conferences
  7. Have experience supporting staff members in a variety of ways
  8. Skills in preparing and maintaining accurate records
  9. Experience with planning and managing projects
  10. Proficient computer skills: excel, POS system
  11. Has good interpersonal communication skills
  12. Valid Maryland Driver's license with an excellent driving record. Experience driving a box truck and/or small bus
  13. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds repetitiously.
  14. High energy, positive, "can-do" attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative and an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
  15. Ability to work with sensitivity and without discrimination towards peoples of diverse cultures, races/ethnicity, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental challenges/disabilities, and sexual orientations.
  16. A passion for the mission is essential. This job description may not be all inclusive and employees are expected to perform all other duties as assigned and directed by management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Position:
  1. Communicate with school staff in regards to tower garden operations, planting, harvesting and curriculum/events
  2. Tower garden maintenance and stocking
  3. Institute waste reduction practices in all schools
  4. Recording/documenting waste reduction for each school and the district
  5. Train food service composting staff on proper procedures for composting, documenting
  6. Support academic curriculum in sustainability
  7. Support school based Green Committees and clubs
  8. Social media post on green initiatives
  9. Communications with composting company
  10. Attend staff meetings/trainings and other meetings as required.
  11. Recruiting and training of volunteers
  12. Participating in community activities and events as necessary


Salary: 10 month contractual position at $30 an hour 15-20 hours a week
