Summary

The Lead IT Business Analyst will work closely with applications teams, other Business Analysts, and key business stakeholders to develop roadmaps, as well as document detailed business and technical requirements. The lead analyst maintains key metrics, manages RFP processes, and vendor relationships for new systems and enhancements. They will identify opportunities to leverage and gain value from various technologies across ERP back-office systems, sales, service, rental and parts and work through others to accomplish deliverables. This position will stay up to date with evolving application trends, new technologies and best practices, as well as the technology roadmaps and dealer requirements for Caterpillar and other related OEM providers of equipment and parts. This position will work across the Business Technology and Carolina Caterpillar and look for opportunities to leverage standards and common platforms.

The Lead IT Business Analyst will report into and work closely with the Director of Cat Applications, as well as collaborate and work closely with the Solutions Architecture and Digital Platforms development teams. This role will also engage heavily with key business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities for this role include understanding business and data requirements and translating them into functional requirements necessary for the technology solutions that meet enterprise needs, expected delivery dates and quality standards. Will develop design solutions, test scenarios and ensure the solution can be integrated successfully into the overall application architecture. The position will contribute to the story refinement/defining requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Working with Business and Vendor Partners, and BT Solutions Dev teams, develop roadmaps and application product technology plans for overall solutions. Translate business requirements into feature maps, use cases, requirements, for development teams. Network to build relationships with OEM Teams to understand specific OEM roadmaps, product offerings and technology capabilities/architectures. Along with Weisiger product owners, provides Weisiger input to OEM's, software providers and customers as it relates to coordinating joint initiatives.
  • Support the creation and execution of new features to include: justifying the business case, requirements gathering, technical analysis, story creation, delivery communication and overall process/business flows impacting the feature
  • Identify technical feasibility of requirements while identifying gaps and raising issues accordingly
  • Lead the BA function within the Cat Apps team to set governance, frameworks, standard processes, and templates to be leveraged across the team. Serve as mentor to other BAs on the team.
  • Partner with PMO on early discovery and business case requirements as well as prioritization of BT requests
  • Assist with short term and long-term project planning including annual prioritization of project efforts across the business
  • Communication - within BT team and across stakeholder groups to achieve and maintain alignment
  • User Acceptance - owns test creation, execution and sign-off from business product owners
  • Own coordinating Tech Support from BT applications perspective post go-live
  • Serve as a mentor to other business analysts on the Cat Apps team
  • Create reference manuals, training aids and other technical documents as required

Education and/or Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in business analyst functions in a technical or applications context
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Certified SAFe Product Owner or Business Analyst (or equivalent)
  • Experience capturing customer/user requirements, crafting roadmaps, business cases, formal business requirements documents (BRD's), crafting use cases and writing user stories
  • Experience serving as a business analyst on medium and large-scale projects including post implementation support
  • Experience facilitating requirements gathering sessions with customers, users, internal teams and business partners
  • Experience with ERP platforms, warehouse systems, ecommerce solutions, and financial systems in both on-premise and cloud technologies
  • Experience implementing 3rd party solutions and working with vendors for solution design, integration and ongoing support.
  • Experience in evaluating sitemaps and UI/UX, including wireframes
  • Strong technical acuity and aptitude
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and bring together complex pieces of a puzzle into a cohesive plan
  • Experience applying concepts and techniques from various agile approaches
  • Experience with JIRA, Salesforce and Confluence applications is preferred
  • Experience with legacy midrange or mainframe systems and applications preferred
  • Azure and/or AWS certifications related to cloud applications solutions preferred
