About the job Senior Accountant

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing a variety of accounting tasks, including financial reporting, general ledger reconciliations, and month-end closing activities. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and mentor junior accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting and maintain depreciation schedules.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, promoting professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business operations and achieve financial objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Previous experience in agriculture industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Famous, MS Nav, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with process improvement and implementation of accounting systems is a plus.
