Role Overview

As a key member of our Americas Power and Renewables Consulting Team, you will be responsible for leading and executing a wide range of both, commercially and technically focused consultancy projects, spanning the entire value chain of power markets, wind, solar, energy storage, and distributed energy disciplines within Wood Mackenzie's growing Power & Renewables Consulting team.

This role requires a high level of creative thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to apply detailed knowledge and experience in power and renewables markets to a broad range of consulting projects and client situations. These capabilities must be accompanied by a strong command of oral and written communication skills in both internal as well as external and client-facing environments. Additionally, outstanding team and project management capabilities, in a consulting context, are required for the purpose of this role.

The role requires frequent engagement with and work alongside senior client teams and occasional travel throughout the Americas region.

Main Responsibilities

As a Managing Consultant at Wood Mackenzie, you will take ownership for the delivery of important parts of the assignment as well as project managing and coordinating the overall effort under the supervision of a Project Director. Your main responsibilities will be:
  • Act as Project Manager, coordinating and managing consulting projects by setting up a detailed project plan and working with a team to execute toward milestones
  • Lead and execute complex analysis of commodity markets and project economics, while leveraging our industry research and expertise
  • Bring a thorough and current understanding of power and renewables markets and their expected evolution, and be able to effectively discuss recent events and implications with clients and colleagues
  • Build and present compelling presentations conveying key messages and recommendations concisely for a senior audience
  • Support the creation and review of consulting proposals that create strategic insight for our clients and value for Wood Mac
  • Build and maintain an internal network (across consulting, research, and sales) to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients and Wood Mackenzie
  • Train and coach junior team members on day-to-day consulting tasks and ensuring successful project delivery
  • Actively engage in broader Consulting practice activities such as recruiting, training, and operational improvements
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as business, economics, finance, statistics, or engineering; top tier master's and/or MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a management consulting or energy-focused consulting role, or other strategic/commercial role relating to power markets or renewable energies
  • Working experience with regional energy markets, wind, solar, storage, distributed energy resources, EVs and associated technologies will be a plus
  • Proven experience of working in project teams, whether in a consulting context or within an operating or service company.
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with clients
  • Track record of quickly becoming knowledgeable and speaking credibly about a wide-range of subjects and themes
  • Strong presentation and writing skills
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, Power Point, Access
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • English fluency is required.
  • Travel required up to 5% - 10% domestic
