As a Material Applications Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing material usage, solving complex puzzles, and innovating solutions within our steel slitting processes. Your primary focus will be on maximizing slitting efficiency, minimizing waste, managing supply chains, assisting in the review and control of slitting costs, and working closely with purchasing to ensure we are buying the most optimal size material for our order book.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize the system's functionalities to manage inventory effectively, ensuring accurate and real-time tracking of materials used in the steel slitting processes.
  • Employ the business system to conduct regular analyses of inventory levels, consumption patterns, and demand forecasts.
  • Implement strategies to optimize stock levels, minimize excess inventory and waste, and work to prevent shortages while aligning with production schedules.
  • Communicate with purchasing coordinators to evaluate best buying practices to ensure the most cost effective production runs
  • Collaborate with inside sales on demand forecasts, future planning of JITs (just in time) and management of finish goods
  • Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement projects focused on cost reduction and overall savings
  • Review and drive improvement of department key performance metrics (KPIs)
  • Understand material and customer specifications
  • Communicate effectively with plant management to ensure success in the slitting process

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in business, materials science, engineering or a related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in business, preferably within the steel or manufacturing industry
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software for performance tracking and improvement
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams
  • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Organizational Relationship:

This individual reports to the Material Applications Manager and works closely with a variety of departments throughout the company.
