Systems Integration Engineer

An incumbent is responsible for identifying, designing, implementing, and supporting technology solutions including collegewide technology environments, systems, and services that meet strategic operational requirements in a secure manner. The Systems Integration Engineer generates, develops, and communicates strategic technical directions and decisions for existing and new client computing technologies. Provides leadership and guidance to technology support staff in the development of technologies, standards, procedural methodologies, and related support materials and communications. The incumbent is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated methods for service delivery and support in stand-alone, client-server, web-based, hosted, cloud and/or other distributed technology environments.
Nature and Scope
An incumbent reports to the Applications Director in the Division of Information Technology (IT). The Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for identifying, designing, implementing, and supporting technology solutions including collegewide technology environments, systems, and services that meet strategic operational requirements in a secure manner. The Systems Integration Engineer supports enterprise Linux and Windows environments, Oracle/Microsoft/MySQL relational database management system ( RDBMS ) environments, SaaS solutions and connectors, and commercial and custom web-based applications; resolving applications-related issues escalated from IT departments and functional users, and performs hands-on support, applications monitoring, security, backup, and recovery. The incumbent generates, develops, and communicates strategic technical directions and decisions for existing and new client computing technologies. Provides leadership and guidance to technology support staff in the development of technologies, standards, procedural methodologies, and related support materials and communications. The incumbent is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated methods for service delivery and support in stand-alone, client-server, web-based, hosted, cloud and/or other distributed technology environments. The Systems Integration Engineer administers web applications on on-premise and cloud-based servers and monitors application operation and performance, providing level 2 and level 3 support as required both during and outside of normal business hours.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Designs, implements, and optimizes automated methods for service delivery and support in stand-alone, client-server, web-based, hosted, cloud and/or other distributed technology environments.
2. Manages installations, configurations, systems and network resources, solutions, and corrective actions for optimum performance and usability; creates alternative methods of completing tasks, correcting user errors, addressing system inconsistencies and process/procedural inefficiencies to improve team functions.
3. Works to ensure proactive support such as upgrades, features/functionality deployment, information/announcements, etc. for systems and service within areas of responsibility; works with vendors, IT and functional user teams, and others as needed to verify timely service delivery and ensure that assets are installed and ready to operate on schedule.
4. Provides technical advice regarding strategic project need and scope and prepares estimates of time, cost, and/or resources as a resource for technology/business project tasks.
5. Takes ownership of difficult and/or complex technology issues escalated due to the inability to resolve at the analyst responsibility level to include good documentation/communication of fix. Diagnoses and resolves unique and/or complex non-recurring problems associated with applications software; determines the source of problems and classifies their level, priority, and nature.
6. Works with IT staff and functional users to create innovative solutions regarding assigned Banner modules and third-party data integrations.
7. Collaborates with IT directors, faculty, students, and college staff to advise, recommend, and implement technology solutions according to standards and strategic area and institutional goals.
8. Responsible for application software including design, programming, implementation, post-analysis, and tuning.
9. Assists in training others in the operation and function of individualized and/or specialized technology procedures and usage; mentors, trains, and positively affects the performance of the IT Division. Instructs/trains users regarding technologies and systems especially in a train the trainer capacity.
10. Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
◊ Ellucian Banner experience; working knowledge of the Ellucian
ETHOS
platform and integration experience with APIs; working knowledge of Oracle,
SQL , Linux and Windows; experience integrating outside applications (including cloud-based systems) with internal enterprise systems.
◊ Excellent understanding and working knowledge of
ERP
software solutions and third-party integrations, enterprise database management systems,
SDLC
methodologies, Agile/Scrum development methodologies in an enterprise environment, security practices, deployment and integration.
◊ Working knowledge of application frameworks implementing object-orientation programming languages and secure synchronous and asynchronous programming concepts found in
PHP , Java, Perl, Ruby, C/C++/C#, Python,
HTML , and
CSS .
◊ Knowledge of Oracle, MySQL, and
MSSQL
RDBMS
configuration and operation in an enterprise environment.
◊ Knowledge of network fundamentals including Internet Protocol (IP) telecommunications, Open Systems Interconnection model ( OSI
model), network routing, network switching and network firewalls.
◊ Knowledge of methods, concepts, and techniques of advanced applications development technologies and related best-practices.
◊ Skill in using diagnostic and performance tools and other software products to maintain established standards for database management systems.
◊ Ability to apply serve as a technical mentor to others and guide less-experienced developers in resolving complex problems.
◊ Ability to learn new and complex technologies at an accelerated pace.
◊ Ability to prioritize and manage competing work requests and deadlines.
◊ Ability to integrate new technologies and methods into existing applications framework.
◊ Ability to think critically and develop solutions quickly.
◊ Ability to respond to emergencies at all hours.
◊ Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects with minimal supervision within a deadline driven environment.
◊ Ability to solve complex technical problems with creative and functional solutions.
◊ Ability to work independently, and effectively interact with diverse individuals, including developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
◊ Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
◊ Bachelor’s degree in Technology or other related field and five (5) years of relevant experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
◊ Experience should include any combination of the following: experience in systems development working with enterprise systems and third-party applications, or enterprise applications development experience, or enterprise applications environment configuration and monitoring, or end-to-end full-stack program development experience.
