Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) As part of Calpine’s Generation EMS team of IT Analysts, will support Calpine’s OSI Monarch Generation Management System (GMS)/Energy Management System (EMS) used by the Generation Dispatch desk and plant operators to monitor, control, and optimize (SCADA) the performance of Calpine Corp. generation fleet. Using critical thinking and effective communication skills, will work alongside the system operators to provide real-time support of the GMS by troubleshooting and resolving problems, interacting with counterparties, ICCP, ISOs and vendor support resources. Position will work in Downtown Houston office. Using past GMS/EMS and IT development experience, you will configure, update and maintain the system by adding devices such as RTUs and generators, working with Calculation code and one-line diagrams. Will have experience working hands on with EMS/GMS (OSI’s Monarch system) along with LINUX and Windows operating systems. A background in Electrical engineering or power generation along with experience with Oracle, C/C++ on UNIX platforms, query language and .Net. Job Responsibilities Work alongside the system operators to provide real-time support of the GMS by troubleshooting and resolving problems, interacting with the counterparties, ICCP, ISOs and vendor support resources. Use past GMS/EMS and IT development experience, you will configure, update and maintain the system by adding devices such as RTUs and generators, working with Calculation code and one-line diagrams. Assist in working with ISOs to understand market changes and make improvements/updates to the existing system and developing new displays for dispatchers. Assist in defining application requirements and participate in workshops, data and process modeling and prototyping sessions. Assist in ensuring business and technical needs and opportunities are identified and satisfied throughout design, development and implementation efforts. May plan agendas and facilitate meetings of medium complexity. Gather and analyze information required for proper technical design, including the identification and evaluation of purchased package solutions. May interact with security and infrastructure areas to recommend appropriate security and control factors and infrastructure requirements for applications. Good understanding of NERC rules related to generation control systems and cyber assets used to manage and control generation. Working with other Calpine systems like eDNA plant historian to provide or obtain data to and from the real-time systems. Design, develop and maintain tools for various teams involved in market operations and settlements. Job Requirements A Bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Electrical Engineeringor related field. A minimum of five (5) years of experience with developing and/or supporting EMS/SCADA applications is required, with six (6) years relevant experience overall. Solid experience in the electrical power generation industry Experience using OSI Monarch. Experience in writing code using C/C++ on UNIX platform. Good understanding in configuring and supporting applications using DNP, ICCP, etc,. Good knowledge of structured query languages like Oracle SQL. Demonstrated knowledge of concepts of information technology, standard application development methods, and relational database technology. Demonstrated ability to implement standard analysis, programming, and testing techniques across the development life cycle of systems. Ability to determine the use of appropriate current information processing technology, apply logical reasoning to moderately complex situations, and analyze problems of a moderately complex nature and derive workable solutions. Advanced ability to develop and maintain business applications using application development tools as defined. Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management). Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
