The Grant Writer is responsible for writing grants, researching prospective grants and all grant-related activities, including following the grant application process and compliance for the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSResponsible for creating, planning, coordinating, writing, and submitting grant proposals in coordination with Association and Branch staff that address programmatic, staff development, and capital needs that are consistent with the strategic plan and admission of the Association.Researches and identifies appropriate funding sources at local, state, and national levels (including attending bidders conferences) and matches funding opportunities with new partners.Assembles and maintains grant files and Raisers Edge database on various grant applications, contracts, meetings, correspondence, final grant reports, and submission status for recordkeeping and reporting purposes.Confirms and provides timely reporting and compliance as granted by grant award documentation.Analyzes and creates expenditure and income budgets to accompany proposals in collaboration with the Finance Office.Responsible for submitting interim and final reports, progress reports, and ongoing feedback toDevelops, maintains, and enhances relationships with current funding sources, increasing YMCA visibility and developing opportunities with new funding partners under the guidance and advisement of the Chief Philanthropy officer.Responsible for serving as the main point of contact for grants, including CoSA, state, foundation, corporate and other funders, including United Way, as may be the case.Constructs and coordinates reporting of performance metrics and evaluation of grant-funded programs and projects.Recruits collaborative partners (whose efforts are consistent with the strategic plan and mission of the Association) for funding initiatives:Educates community partners on funding opportunities and requirementsEducates community partners on potential YMCA roles in new initiativesWrites and/or assists in the writing of joint proposalsConsults, trains, and provides technical assistance to Branch/Association staff and volunteers to improve funding skills and increase resources by doing the following:Develops short and long term goals.Prepares program and needs specific narratives and budgets.Improves collaboration skills; and other areas of expertise as related to YMCA operations and programs.Other duties as assigned by the Director for Grants Management and/or the Chief Philanthropy Officer.LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:Communication & InfluenceEmotional MaturityQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in any field but will consider a minimum of 5 years of experience in lieu of a formal degree preferred.Must have at least 3 years of experience in grant writing; grant management or reporting desired. (You may redact confidential information)Extensive knowledge in the planning, implementation, and delivery of multiple social service programs.Knowledge in all areas of grantsmanship, including the establishment of timelines, preparation and submission of proposals. Must be able to provide necessary documentation to relative agencies and reconcile expenses as required. This position also requires business writing skills, public relations skills, and presentation skills. Must have a working knowledge of MicrosoftEmployee must have very good oral and written communication skills and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Gmail.Certifications required within the first week of hire: Bloodborne Pathogens, and Hazardous Communications.Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: CPR Pro and First Aid.WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment that requires attending meetings at different off-site locations.Employee must be able to drive to multiple appointments in a day.Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines.Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as, able to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils is essential.Employee has the flexibility to work remotely, in the office, or a combination thereof, but the Chief Philanthropy Officer has the final decision on this matter pursuant to Y policies.
