Position DetailsJob DescriptionTilson is seeking a horizontal directional drill operator to join our established, long-term projects in various locations building out Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH). This position will operate various types of horizontal directional drills including Ditch Witch and Vermeer. Tilson's directional drill operator must have good knowledge of safely operating equipment around live utilities in the underground/telecom utility field. The candidate must have full knowledge of underground fiber installation operations and must be capable and proficient in equipment operations. The ideal candidate will be safety focused, customer and quality oriented, with a strong work ethic and a positive, CAN-DO attitude.Responsibilities:Lead by example, attitude reflects leadership. Lead through the understanding that the employees are the biggest asset Tilson has. Motivate individuals and Team to create a positive and highly productive work environment.Operational knowledge with a variety of the newest horizontal directional drills, including Vermeer and Ditch Witch.Trench, place duct, pull cable, and direct bury main-line and drops.Perform restoration back to existing conditions.Must be able to safely coordinate directional drill equipment in and around congested neighborhoods where adults and children are present.Ensure utility locates are correct and all underground utilities are identified and located before trenching or digging.Constantly communicate with crew members.Ensure potholes are dug and utilities are daylighted prior to crossing utilities.Maintain accuracy in all reporting functions of directional drill shots.Assist with safety events and constantly lookout for changing conditions.Ensure equipment is in proper working order and that all systems are working correctly.Perform basic upkeep and maintenance of the equipment and communicate any equipment malfunctions or repair needs with the supervisor.Communicate with fellow team members using hand or audio signals to ensure the safe operation of Tilson equipment.Must have knowledge of other hand and power tools of all types: power brooms, earth tampers, concrete saws, cement mixers, and various other equipment and tools.Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.Strong work ethic.3+ years' experience.Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude.Able to work in a fast-paced environment.The ability to work safely, with or without supervision.Experience operating underground construction equipment such as those described above, required.CDL A and tanker endorsement preferred.Must be at least 21 years of age to meet Tilson's driving eligibility requirements.Tilson offers a comprehensive benefits package with a focus on choice, health, wellness, and financial security.
