Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, or a related field; three years of progressively responsible experience in customer service including two years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a Treasurer's office, Commissioner of Revenue’s office, or other local government organization is preferred. Considerable knowledge of the code of Virginia with regards to property tax; of the principles and practices of excellent customer service.

Ability to exercise tact and independent judgement in dealing with the public; to analyze and evaluate services and operations; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; to supervise staff.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in managing the daily operations of the cashier line in the Treasurer’s office.

•Manage the daily operations of the main Cashier Area of the Treasurer’s Office to ensure that excellent customer service is provided to customers and funds collected are accurately and timely reconciled. •Ensure payments received are processed in accordance with the payment processing policy of “2 day posting to account”. •Open and lock the vault and provide security throughout the day. •Coordinate with internal automation staff and Datamatx to ensure accuracy of scheduled billings. •Handle customer service issues referred from front-line staff, such as explaining Personal Property and Real Estate Property taxes and making decisions regarding penalty, interest, and administration fees. •Track and reconcile dog licensing for substations and the Treasurer’s office. •Responsible for ensuring address changes for personal property accounts are updated from post office returned mail and NCOA reports. •Serve on teams working with outside vendors to make improvements to current systems, and to gain new functionality; perform other work as required.
