Our team of Engineers is responsible for the successful implementation of major capital projects supporting operations throughout North and South America. These state-of-the-art projects relate to new and upgraded material handling, material preparation, tire-building, curing, testing, and finishing processes at our Manufacturing Facilities.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Michelin has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead, design, and implement mechanical and automation solutions in accordance with our capital investment program. For industrial investment projects within scope, the successful candidate provides the equipment needed to achieve the project objectives at the best performance / cost ratio using a combination of Michelin designed solutions, commercially available solutions, or new designs/technologies. The position will include aspects of project management, technical specification, equipment design, analysis, installation management, and equipment start-up in support of one or more manufacturing facilities. This specific position primarily supports our tire building related machinery and processes, however project assignments could expand to other process areas.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

  • Start to finish technical Project Management including risk, schedule, budget, equipment/system design, and resource management.
  • Conduct Feasibility and opportunity studies with challenged and validated Functional Specifications. The possible solutions are evaluated from the point of view of purchase and operational costs, project timelines, risks, and functional choice criteria.
  • Adhere to the Michelin quality system and the methods of your assigned group as you deliver project goals (common tools include: risk analyzes, FMEA, design reviews, quality planning, Technical Equipment Dossier (DTE), treatment of Non-conforms (NC), ...).
  • Perform integration studies in cooperation with individuals within various business entities. Frequent collaboration with all levels of employees will be necessary for the successful resolution of the project objectives.
  • Design, build, and lead implementation projects to improve plant performance by replacing outdated systems, improving existing equipment, or introducing innovations to make progress.
  • Manage change requests according to the agreed design evolution / change management process.
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications and acceptance criteria for process equipment in collaboration with our industry partners. Document results at the agreed milestones of the project management process.
  • Provide cost / schedule / resource estimates for all phases of process equipment addition, replacement or upgrade.
  • Facilitate procurement, acceptance inspections, and maintain "as built" folders for assigned material and equipment projects.
  • Manage all aspects of an installation site, including oversight of contractors or maintenance installation teams during project execution through start-up and commissioning.
  • Provide support and training to plant maintenance and process methods teams on new systems/processes/machines as they are implemented at the manufacturing locations, to include support towards qualification of the associated systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in manufacturing.
  • Travel as needed up to 30%, worldwide, primarily Canada, USA, Mexico, and occasionally other international locations.
  • Provide project support, especially during installation, start-up and ramp up phases, is often "on-site" and "hands on", and many projects include implementation schedules during holidays and shutdowns.
  • Act as Equipment Referent (Owner) for specific machines, maintaining all documentation and relationships.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or technical discipline preferred along with demonstrated successful project management. Associate degree in technical discipline along with 7 years of relevant experience or 10 years of relevant experience also considered.
  • Applicants should be knowledgeable about mechanical systems, including hands on knowledge and / or design experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D as well as AutoCAD 2D systems is preferred. Basic knowledge in these or similar software is considered. Knowledge of Siemens Team Center software is a plus. (FEA Analysis a plus)
  • Applicant should be well organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated teamwork, communication and planning skills preferred. Previous project management experience or team leadership experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivation with a high degree of integrity and able to perform job duties with minimal direction on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and data accuracy in previous work.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines.
  • Robotic experience is preferred, but not required. Specific experience with Fanuc or Yaskawa is a plus.
