Job Summary

Reporting to the Employment & Compensation Manager, the HR Staffing Specialist performs activities supporting the recruitment and on-boarding processes of exempt and nonexempt applicants and new hires for Occidental College. Establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with hiring managers in developing effective recruiting strategies related to talent identification, evaluating candidates and making job offers. Provides services to students in obtaining employment on campus and administers day to day activities pertaining to student employment. Provide administrative support for efficient office operations and assist the Human Resource department as needed. Ensures confidentiality of information.

Job Duties

40% - Responsible for casual and student worker recruitment and employment. Provides backup on regular and full/part time recruitment and employment. Develops postings, advertising and marketing materials to source qualified candidate pools for regular, casual and student employment opportunities. Receives and screens employment applications, conducts employment interviews, reviews certification of employment eligibility, applications, and performs reference and background checks. Engage with prospective new hires through the onboarding process. Ensure the completion of new hire forms. - (Essential) 40% - Administer on campus student employment program, liaises with Financial Aid and ensures compliance with federal work-study regulations and reporting. Provide improvements and apply technology tools to increase and enhance usability and student satisfaction. Assist to provide orientation and training to campus users of student employment. Provide ongoing assistance to student workers. - (Essential) 20% - Acts as point of contact for and performs triage of issues related to recruitment and employment. Receives, screens and directs calls and visitors. Responds to complex inquiries requiring research or interpretation of departmental policies and procedures. Receives various forms from Oxy personnel; reviews forms for completeness based on knowledge of policies and procedures. Maintains and ensures HR-related forms remain current. Responsible for handling verification of employment and unemployment claims. - (Essential) Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in human resources management or related area and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years Human Resource and recruitment experience. Two years of experience working with an automated job requisition and applicant tracking system. Working knowledge of human resources policies, practices, and procedures. Ability to interpret and apply human resources policies, practices, and procedures; to organize data and present clear, concise reports; to conduct interviews; to analyze jobs and job requirements for recruitment, selection, classification, and training; to use automated systems, computers, and related software to facilitate assigned work; to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure; to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications. Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy. Strong commitment to a quality work product. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically. Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies. Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity. Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities. Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a timely manner. Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual in Spanish/English. Experience working in a higher education environment.

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $28.00 - $31.00/hr

If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
