We are looking for candidates to join ATX as Analysts in our Washington, DC and Los Angeles offices. Applicants who are comfortable with numbers, rigorous analysis, and the basics of programming -- regardless of specific major (sciences, engineering, humanities, or economics) -- will thrive in our information-rich environment. Our process involves managing massive amounts of information to come to targeted conclusions about our markets. Analysts can expect intellectual challenges that derive from poorly understood dynamics in our target markets, and they will be critical in scaling the firm’s understanding of how these markets “really work.” A successful analyst will begin by refining existing investment strategies and will grow to develop new strategies. Our process is like encountering real-world problem sets: difficulty scales over time, mastered complexity offers a tremendous sense of accomplishment, and feedback comes in the form of investment returns. Stand out applicants may also have an interest to learn about energy and electricity markets — though no prior power market experience is required. Candidates should be highly quantitative, have a strong academic record, have excellent communication skills, and be team-players. We do a lot of coding and playing with data, so familiarity with basic coding concepts such as those taught in an intro computer science class is preferred. However, applicants do not need extensive coding experience, just some comfort in any language. Our extensive on-the-job training and mentoring will prepare you to be successful at our firm. Unlike larger banks and commodity trading shops, we operate in smaller groups with much less specialized roles. Holding aside above-market compensation, our greatest advantage is that we offer dramatically higher rates-of-learning than are found in more traditional or specialized roles, as analysts will be given a high level of responsibility and freedom. We build all our own proprietary tools, enabling us to prototype, iterate quickly, and pivot when necessary. We automate as many redundant processes as possible to maximize time spent on analysis.
