Senior Accountant

Job Summary: Red Lake Construction, LLC (RLC) and its Joint Venture Subsidiary, Red Arrow JV, LLC, are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in construction accounting and federal contracting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the financial activities of both companies, ensuring compliance with SBA and Federal government requirements, and maintaining accurate financial records. This position requires a self-motivated individual capable of working independently to create and manage a comprehensive document storage structure. Secondary responsibilities include reviewing financial statements and their corresponding supporting documentation for other construction entities of Red Lake, Inc., the parent company of Red Lake Construction, LLC. Key Responsibilities: Financial Management: Oversee all accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and cost accounting. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Manage cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all SBA and Federal government regulations related to construction contracts. Prepare and submit all required financial reports and documentation to relevant authorities. Conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures. Project Accounting: Manage accounting for multiple federal construction projects simultaneously. Track project costs, prepare project billing, and monitor project profitability. Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate project financial reporting. Produce Monthly Work in Process Job Reports so we can track the gross profit progress. Accounting Information Systems Management: Become the expert in Sage Intacct Software and proficient in Foundation Software. Make sure all job cost codes are current and adequate for the job cost tracking needs. Set up new jobs and include original schedule of values budget for each job. Close out completed jobs when finished and signed off. Document Management: Develop and implement a comprehensive document storage structure for all financial and project-related documents. Ensure all documents are stored in compliance with SBA and Federal government requirements. Maintain organized records and ensure easy retrieval of documents as needed. Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting department. Provide recommendations for financial policies and procedures. Travel Requirement The position may require travel to remote offices as needed to ensure effective financial management and compliance across all project sites. Red Arrow JV's office is in Tempe, AZ, and the construction Senior Accountant will be expected to visit this location periodically to collaborate with the team, oversee financial operations, and support project requirements as required. Required Qualifications: Education and Experience : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction accounting, with a focus on federal contracting. Strong knowledge of SBA and Federal government regulations related to construction contracts. Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills. These companies use Sage Intacct and/or Foundation Software. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications - DCAA Compliance: To stay in compliance with federal DCAA (Defense Contract Audit Agency) accounting principles and to successfully pass federal yearly audits, the applicant must possess the following knowledge: DCAA Compliance: Understanding of DCAA audit requirements and processes. Knowledge of FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and its implications on accounting practices. Familiarity with CAS (Cost Accounting Standards) and how they apply to federal contracts. Indirect Cost Rates : Ability to develop and manage indirect cost rate proposals. Knowledge of allowable and unallowable costs under federal regulations. Timekeeping and Labor Reporting : Proficiency in maintaining compliant timekeeping systems and practices. Understanding of labor distribution and allocation to various contracts. Contract Types : Familiarity with different types of government contracts (e.g., fixed-price, cost-plus, time and materials). Ability to manage accounting and reporting requirements specific to each contract type. Internal Controls : Expertise in establishing and maintaining internal controls to ensure compliance with federal regulations. Ability to conduct internal audits to preemptively address potential issues. Cost Accounting : Experience in job cost accounting and project cost tracking. Proficiency in preparing Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS) and other required federal reports. Financial Reporting : Ability to prepare accurate and compliant financial statements and reports. Understanding of government-specific reporting requirements, such as SF 1408 (Pre-award Survey of Prospective Contractor Accounting System) and other audit documents. Documentation and Record Keeping : Knowledge of document retention policies and procedures as required by federal regulations. Proficiency in maintaining organized and accessible records for audit purposes. Audit Readiness : Ability to prepare for and facilitate DCAA and other federal audits. Experience in responding to audit findings and implementing corrective actions. Ethical Standards : Strong understanding of ethical standards in government contracting. Commitment to maintaining integrity and transparency in all financial practices. By possessing these areas of knowledge, the applicant will be well-equipped to ensure compliance with federal DCAA accounting principles and successfully navigate the complexities of federal yearly audits.
