Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Public Health Specialist II will work with state and local partners as well as school district personnel to provide support toward improving knowledge and awareness of school environmental health issues through an existing DOH program, which is an intervention in the 2019-2024 DOH Prevention Agenda. The incumbent will assist schools with understanding and implementation of best practices in school environmental health to improve indoor air quality in schools, and to improve the health and learning of school-aged children. As part of an existing team, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties related to the School Environmental Health Program: work with existing program staff, Steering Committee partners, K-12 school staff, and other NYSDOH staff to provide support toward the implementation of the program statewide; plan and attend virtual or in-person regional seminars, tabling events and a program sponsored conference; assist with outreach and program promotion, tracking, and evaluation activities; communicate with K-12 schools; assist with identifying and engage new stakeholders concerned with school environmental health; assist with community of practice webinars; and other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and three years of such experience; OR five years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

MPH or another graduate degree in Public Health, a related Social Science, Health Science, Epidemiology. Demonstrated, strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated, strong organizational skills with attention to detail, handling multiple tasks and activities. Experience collaborating with external partners. Experience working with K-12 schools. Knowledge of various environmental health topics. Experience with program coordination. Experience with promoting programs or conducting program outreach with various audiences. Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Tableau.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position expected to last through 10/31/2024 with the possibility of continued funding thereafter. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
