: Director of Regulatory Compliance and State Licensing (Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder - SUD)

Position Overview:

The Regulatory Compliance and State Licensing Specialist specializing in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the organization adheres to all relevant regulations and holds the necessary licenses to provide mental health and SUD services. This position involves staying current with evolving regulatory requirements, obtaining and maintaining licenses, and implementing compliance measures to uphold legal and ethical standards in the provision of mental health and SUD services.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance Oversight:

  • Monitor federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to mental health and SUD treatment services.
  • Analyze regulatory updates and assess their impact on service delivery, privacy practices, and billing requirements.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and departmental leadership to interpret regulatory requirements and develop compliance strategies.
Licensing Acquisition and Renewal:
  • Identify and acquire the licenses necessary to operate mental health and SUD treatment programs in various jurisdictions.
  • Prepare and submit license applications, ensuring compliance with documentation and procedural requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of license expiration dates and manage the renewal process to prevent lapses in licensure.
Compliance Documentation and Reporting:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, and incident reports.
  • Generate compliance reports on service delivery metrics, regulatory adherence, and corrective actions taken.
  • Prepare materials for regulatory audits and assist in audit preparations and responses.
Staff Training and Education:
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to staff members regarding compliance issues and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a culture of compliance awareness and accountability within the organization.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
  • Identify potential compliance risks related to service delivery, privacy practices, billing, and documentation.
  • Conduct risk assessments and internal audits to evaluate compliance effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate compliance risks and enhance regulatory compliance processes.
Stakeholder Communication:
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, licensing boards, and accreditation bodies.
  • Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with compliance objectives and regulatory obligations.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with regulatory contacts and participate in industry forums or working groups.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

Previous experience in regulatory compliance, state licensing, or a similar role within the mental health and SUD treatment field.

In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, including HIPAA, and state-specific licensing regulations.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory documents and assess their implications for service delivery.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and compliance documentation.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Certification in healthcare compliance (e.g., Certified in Healthcare Compliance) or related field is desirable.
