The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is looking to fill a Medical Dosimetrist position in Radiation Oncology. This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The University of New Mexico Compressive Cancer Center is the only New Mexico academic healthcare facility dedicated to both cancer research and patient care. We are one of just 51 cancer centers in the United States to achieve Comprehensive designation by the NCI. We are seeking a motivated medical dosimetrist to be part of a team of five dosimetrists working in close collaboration with five physicists and four radiation oncologists to deliver exceptional patient care. We have an active SRS, SBRT, and TBI program, serving pediatric patients, and complicated re-irradiations from all over the state. The ideal candidate should have strong technical and communication skills along with an interest in translational research and teaching. Enthusiasm about innovation, process improvement and patient safety are necessary as well. The Cancer Center currently has three Elekta linear accelerators. Treatment planning is performed using Raystation and MOSAIQ as a treatment management program. The department will be expanding to four linear accelerators and an MR linac in the next few years. The full time dosimetry position is considered hybrid, with on site and remote rotations. Maintaining full time residency in the state of NM is required.

Minimum Job Requirements

Current Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) accreditation or eligibility required. Candidates who have been eligible but are not certified for three or more years will not be considered. One year clinical dosimetry experience is preferred. Verification of education and licensure will be required if selected for hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required


* Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.


* Ability to train assigned staff.


* Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.


* Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.


* Ability to read and interpret imaging data, and utilize image management systems.


* Ability to generate patient treatment plans using all available treatment planning systems.


* Ability to calibrate and operate radiation detection instruments.


* Knowledge of patient immobilization devices and related treatment needs for radiation patients.


* Ability to handle sealed radioactive sources


* Knowledge of radiation therapy methodology, procedures and standards.


* Ability to collect, maintain and utilize statistics in order to help monitor and improve clinical processes.

Conditions of Employment


* Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).


* Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.


* Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, is required.


* Must provide proof of varicella & MMR immunity or obtain vaccinations within 90 days of employment.


* Must obtain annual influenza vaccination.


* If this position is assigned to a clinical area, successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-placement medical evaluation/health screen. Required N-95 mask fitting, testing, vaccinations to include annual TST, Tdap, and Hepatitis B will be determined based on location and nature of position.
