About Our Facility:
Lovelace Medical Center is a well-established acute care hospital with 263 licensed beds, providing a wide range of services including emergency care, surgical procedures, and specialized oncology services. We believe in a collaborative approach to healthcare, where every team member plays a vital role in patient care, fostering an environment of respect and compassion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • May serve as the Radiation Safety Officer in the absence of the PHD Physicist.
  • Supervise dosimetrists, radiation therapy technologists, biomedical engineers, and specialists in physics-related activities.
  • Conduct calibration checks and safety surveys of linear accelerators and other radiation sources.
  • Assist in the brachytherapy program, including simulation, supervision, and film acceptance.
  • Prepare radioactive sources and conduct radiation surveys and protection.
  • Participate in the development, procurement, and acceptance testing of therapy equipment.
  • Implement and oversee quality control programs within the therapy department.
  • Consult with radiologists and radiation oncologists regarding patient care and fetal dose assessments.
  • Engage in the planning of future facilities and research new devices for enhanced therapeutic applications of radiation.
  • Maintain professional relationships through attendance at relevant meetings and activities.
  • Be available for on-call duties during nights and weekends as needed.
  • Contribute to the radiation safety program and assist in developing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Consult with other healthcare professionals and patients about radiation exposure and safety.

Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of lifting heavy items occasionally, such as lead blocks and source containers.

Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Physics or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Board certification (ABR, ABMP, or equivalent) is required.
  • Eligibility to become an Authorized Medical Physicist (AMP) for Gammaknife Icon and Varian HDR.
  • Experience with Mosaiq, Varian linear accelerators, Tomotherapy, Pinnacle, Brachyvision, Radcalc, and intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) is preferred.
