Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The Network Administrator will assist with maintaining a reliable, secure and efficient data communications network. The ideal candidate will be able to deploy, configure, maintain and monitor all active network equipment in order to ensure smooth network operation.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Sr. Network Administrator, troubleshoot a wide variety of network related issues using such tools as Wireshark, Putty, PRTG Network Monitor.
  • Provides second level support to Help Desk.
  • Creates, reads and interprets various IT documents using such applications as Visio, Excel, etc.
  • Works closely with various groups such as students, staff, management and vendors.
  • Under the supervision of the Sr. Network Administrator assist with evaluating needs and requirements of new hardware and software and communicate results to interested parties.
  • Participates in on-call schedule for after hour issues.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions:
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • A working knowledge of networking and routing protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of network security both internally and on the perimeter.
  • Ability to create, read and interpret various IT documents using such applications as Visio, Excel, etc.
  • Knowledgeable with networking hardware, software configurations, maintenance and monitoring of switching, routing and wireless networks
  • Must be able to time manage more than one project or crisis at a time
  • Strong diagnostic, evaluation and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • A strong desire and ability to learn technologies
  • The ability to collaborate with other team members
Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

Basic understanding of networking concepts

Network+ or comparable certification preferred

3-4 years in IT, network experience preferred
