Job Title:

Transportation Specialist - VSSR Summary This position is responsible for providing transportation services to veterans living in Swords to Plowshares permanent supportive housing sites located across San Francisco. The key aspects of this position include supporting the ability of veterans to connect to care and build community. The responsibilities of the Transportation Specialist include providing transportation services for tenants during and after regular business hours to specific locations within San Francisco, completing appropriate documentation, including incident reports, being on time for all stops and pick-ups, and working with daytime treatment staff to ensure veterans are delivered safely to and from their destinations.

Schedule To Be Determined: Ability to work Monday through Saturday, with a varied schedule weekly.

Roles and Responsibilities

Transport veterans to and from the designated route stops

Conduct safety checks on the shuttle before every use

Ensure that the shuttle bus is fueled, well-maintained, and presentable at all times

Arrive at collection points prior to departure times

Confirm that all veterans are present and record and report any no-shows to your supervisor

Ensure adherence to passenger limits are followed in terms of seating capacity

Avoid high-traffic and accident-prone routes, where possible

Record and report all accidents and/or parking violations and incidents to your supervisor

Ensure that veterans disembark at the correct destinations, safely, and in a timely manner

Ensure that the vehicle is not left unattended at any time when there are passengers on board. If you are required to leave the vehicle, you must turn the vehicle off and ensure that it is properly parked and secured.

Observe all relevant traffic and safety laws

Attend required meetings and training

Perform other related duties assigned by supervisory personnel

Requirements

California Driver’s License CDL with “P” designation in order to drive up to a 15 passenger van with a clean driving record.

Must pass all requirements set forth by applicable transportation and State agencies and be able to provide proper documentation

Previous experience driving groups of people

Knowledge of applicable transport and safety codes

First Aid training is preferred at hire but will be required before driving any Swords to Plowshares vehicle(s)

Working knowledge of pertinent car maintenance preferred.

Ability to engage clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries

Demonstrated ability to work as a team member

Written and oral communication skills

Computer literacy

Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted

Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative

Working Conditions:

Must be able to perform all essential job requirements and responsibilities within what would be considered reasonable accommodation

Salary & Benefits This full-time, non-exempt position has a starting pay range of $27.88 - $29.14 per hour.

Compensation is based on a competitive public interest salary scale. Swords to Plowshares offers a generous benefits package including the following benefits:
