Position Summary
The primary duty of the Transportation Specialist is to drive a St. Vincent De Paul Village vehicle to collect and distribute donations from various locations, including homes, retail outlets, and storage facilities. This role also involves assisting other drivers with the loading and unloading of items, ensuring a secure work environment, and delivering outstanding service to donors and clients. The Transportation Specialist will engage with a diverse group of colleagues and the public while upholding a professional attitude, high integrity, and the mission-driven values of St. Vincent De Paul Village.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Compliance: The driver is accountable for the safety of all individuals in and around the vehicle, including other motorists, pedestrians, and passengers. This entails adhering to traffic regulations and performing daily vehicle maintenance, such as refueling and cleaning. The driver must follow all safety protocols and report any concerns promptly.
- Route Management: The driver utilizes navigational tools and adheres to both written and verbal directions to plan efficient routes that align with delivery timelines.
- Record Keeping: The driver is responsible for maintaining documentation, including Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports, Route Sheets, Meal Records, Accident Reports, and work hour logs.
- Loading and Unloading: The driver is tasked with loading and unloading items, ensuring that all cargo is properly secured and treated with care.
- Effective Communication: The driver provides excellent service to donors and vendors while maintaining clear communication with Dispatch, including timely updates on meals, occupancy, and schedules.
- Warehouse Support: Assists in warehouse operations as needed.
- Availability: Must have flexible availability and be prepared to work any day, including possible extended hours to support various business needs.
- Additional Duties: Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid California Class C driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience operating a hand truck, lift gate, and pallet jack.
- A minimum of 3 years of driving experience is required.
- Basic computer skills are essential, and familiarity with GPS tracking systems is preferred.
- Participation in annual health screenings may be required, with reasonable accommodations provided as necessary.
