PRIMARY FUNCTION :

Reporting to the AVP, Planned Giving, the Director of Planned Giving provides day-to-day management for planned giving development and increases the visibility and impact of the program across the enterprise. The Director provides guidance for all aspects of planned giving activities, including identification, qualification, cultivation; solicitation; closure; and stewardship of assigned prospects.

As a key member of the Jefferson's fundraising team, the Director will work with the AVP and members of the Institutional Advancement team to develop and implement key fundraising strategies; assist in translating institutional priorities into appropriate planned gift fundraising opportunities, assist in establishing and implementing a long term development plan to support Jefferson's continued growth; collaborate and work closely with physician and alumni leadership in identifying and responding to gift opportunities; and maintain the flow of information about these priorities throughout the organization. The Director will maintain an active portfolio of key gift prospects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • In collaboration with the AVP, the Director will support the priorities of Jefferson.
  • Serve as a central resource for planned giving. Work closely with major gift officers to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and close planned gifts.
  • Personally maintain a portfolio of planned giving prospects, maintaining frequent and consistent contact with prospects, department leaders and volunteers, and key members of Jefferson's administrative leadership. Maintain and manage this portfolio in a manner that fosters a relationship that leads to philanthropic commitment.
  • Independently draft/prepare planned giving proposals.
  • Work closely with Jefferson's legal counsel on estate and trust matters and planned giving agreements.
  • In collaboration with the AVP, develop a comprehensive understanding of the educational, research, clinical and financial needs and goals; establish, maintain, and grow a highly responsive and collaborative development program to meet these needs/goals.
  • Maintain organized and consistent communication with physician and departmental leaders who serve as critical players at Jefferson. Respond to the needs of these key players and collaboratively identify potential gift opportunities.
  • Work with communications staff to translate strategic initiatives and programmatic/capital needs into persuasive proposals and compelling gift opportunities.
  • Work with Jefferson's events and Alumni Relations staff and development officers to conceptualize events and other activities to cultivate and steward planned gift prospects and donors.
  • Maintain fluid and proactive communications with colleagues to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving key fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Properly record information about prospects and donors in database; report activity and monitor expenditures associated with his/her portfolio.
  • Responsible for strategy execution and the achievement of defined performance goals.
    • Manage an individual prospect pool of 125 or more prospects.
    • Conduct a minimum of 125 Meaningful Donor Encounters per year.
    • Generate 2 proposals per month > $25K (minimum 24/yr).
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS :

Bachelor's degree required, advanced study or law degree is strongly desirable

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION :

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

Minimum 5-8+ years of direct or related fundraising experience, preferably with experience in a healthcare or educational institution.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
  • A demonstrated record of successful planned giving fundraising including identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of $10K to $1M individual gifts.
  • Proven experience in cultivating and maintaining relationships with individual planned and leadership gift prospects. Proven experience in the successful management of prospect pool of approximately 150 individuals and a value of up to $2.5M.
  • Fundraising experience in a variety of functional areas. Particular strength in the area of planned giving development is essential. Familiarity with major outright giving, special events and annual giving concepts is desirable.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication skills. Possesses the ability to work independently as well as cohesively a member of a team.
