JOB TITLE: Senior Accountant-Cash Management

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAYGRADE: AM 4

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for maintaining the District's treasury functions, fixed asset general ledger accounting, and assists with compliance reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related field from an accredited College or University
  • Three years job related experience
Preferred:
  • Five years job related experience
  • Supervisory experience
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of standard accounting requirements
  • Understanding of cash management

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Ensure sufficient cash flow on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for daily journal entries related to cash management including but not limited to cash transfers, investments, change funds, and due to/from.
  • Invest excess cash.
  • Monitor the economy for best investment options.
  • Balance and reconcile investment accounts.
  • Ensure bi-annual debt service payments are made.
  • Maintain banking relationship with District's depository.
  • Responsible for the quarterly investment report.
  • Ensure compliance with the District's financial policies and procedures as they relate to the financial areas.
  • Assist Financial Services Coordinator with preparation of training materials for the bookkeepers/secretaries in the areas of cash management.
  • Serve as the District's liaison between the campuses and Armored Truck Services vendor.
  • Provide accounting assistance to bookkeepers/secretaries at the campuses and departments.
  • Oversee the process for year-end fixed asset accounting including running depreciation and closing journal entries.
  • Assist with preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the annual Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report.
  • Responsible for general ledger accounting duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting and prolonged use of a computer, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require traveling within the district. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; Interface with all levels of leadership, dynamic environment with changing priorities and occasional irregular hours. Ability to be effective in both oral and written communication and the ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to work independently.
