Overview:

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHBs Bedford, NH team is seeking an entry-level Transportation Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will work with a team of traffic engineers and transportation planners on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, private sector, and higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Working within a team of professionals in developing transportation engineering and planning solutions for a multitude of transportation projects,
  • Conducting field inventories of traffic equipment and infrastructure verification (i.e., taking measurements and pictures at field sites),
  • Developing traffic control design plans in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD,
  • Preparing written documents, summarizing data and analysis, and assembling reports to convey findings and recommendations,
  • Collecting and tabulating traffic and safety data,
  • Performing intersection and corridor operational analyses using Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, Sidra, and other analysis tools, and
  • Analyzing, developing, and evaluating traffic improvements.

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills,
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following systems is a plus: Synchro, HCS, Sidra, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or similar,
  • Detail oriented,
  • Self-motivated,
  • Ability and willingness to learn, think critically, and develop new skills,
  • Strong computer skills, and
  • Excel in working in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent,
  • 0-1 years of professional experience, preferably related to transportation engineering with an interest in traffic engineering,
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation a plus, and
  • Fundamentals of Engineering/Engineer in Training (EIT) Designation is a plus.
