Arlington, United States Booz Allen Hamilton Full time
Energy Systems Mechanical Engineer
The Opportunity:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will use your engineering expertise and skills to help build the roadmap to carbon-free installations for the Department of Defense (DoD). Focusing on infrastructure resilience and climate action, you understand the complexity that comes with implementing innovative technology that can meet advanced climate goals while still achieving the high level of energy resilience that is required at military installations. That knowledge is key in the development of solutions that shift the DoD off the reliance on fossil fuels and toward carbon pollution-free operations. Our next step in this transition targets the complex thermal loads at some of the DoD's most energy-intensive facilities, for processes and personnel requirements. We're looking for a mechanical engineer who can work collaboratively to implement new, innovative technology that meets current resilience and climate goals and prepares for future targets.

Our team supports the DoD in its efforts to provide mission readiness through mission assurance. You will be working with military installations to develop a detailed roadmap to increase energy resilience through decarbonization. This will require an assessment of the facilities' existing building envelopes, thermal and mechanical systems, and electrical infrastructure followed by a thorough investigation into energy demand reduction coupled with advanced technologies for thermal and mechanical systems. This is a chance to use your problem-solving skills while gaining experience in defense and installation energy. Join us and take on exciting challenges in the DoD as we transform the definition of resilience. This position will require travel to military installations.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical system design and engineering practices
  • Experience with building envelope and building energy efficiency, including deep energy retrofits
  • Experience with geothermal systems and heat pump technology
  • Knowledge of sustainable building design, building optimization, and net-zero emission technologies
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and recommend suitable technologies for client implementation to achieve carbon-free operation
  • Ability to provide engineering calculations, technical insight, and managerial direction for surveys and projects involving complex energy systems, especially for thermal loads
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Nice If You Have:
  • Experience working with the Federal government and DoD
  • Experience with electrical generation and distribution systems
  • Experience with electric vehicle charging infrastructure
  • Experience with building automation systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and energy management control systems (EMCS)
  • Knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), ASHRAE standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), NEC, NFPA, or IEEE
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • HVAC or Energy-related Professional Engineer (PE) Certification
Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
