Position Purpose: Reporting to the Manager, Grid Innovation, the Specialist, Grid Innovation plays a critical role in supporting emerging innovation pilot projects undertaken by the GRE&T Centre that support Alectra’s grid modernization strategy. This position is responsible for delivering grid innovation project activities and providing support to other initiatives undertaken by the GRE&T Centre as needed. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities: Support the design and delivery of pilot projects, including project management activities such as providing inputs on developing and tracking project plans, budgets, financial planning, schedules, timelines, meeting minutes and other project management documents; following up on actions and decisions from meetings. Act as the subject matter expert in support of Grid Innovation related activities, including electricity markets, flexible resource procurement, and sector innovation. Contribute to the development of commercial and market frameworks for flexibility and ancillary services offered by Distribution System Operators (DSO). Offer expertise and guidance in Grid Operations Transformation with a focus on Operational Technologies (OT) such as Electric Distribution SCADA/Outage Management System (OMS)/Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), Distribution Automation (DA) and Enterprise OT-IT integration. Track and monitor vendor payments/accruals, as well as internal resource contribution towards projects, ensuring relevant costs are appropriately captured and included in the project spend. Contribute to platform design and development with software vendors and project team members, identify process improvements and workflow enhancements. Coordinate marketing efforts and support customer acquisition through collaboration with the Marketing/Sales team; provide subject matter expertise and training to customers and to the internal Marketing/Sales team; conduct participants interview, develop customer-facing materials, track customer enrollment and coordinate responses to customer feedback. Participate in project team recruitment, provide cross-training, disseminate knowledge and learnings, and proactively promote team collaboration and cohesiveness. Provide project and administrative support as needed to support the achievement of departmental objectives and other initiatives being carried on within the GRE&T Centre. Interact with a variety of team members and departments to coordinate project activities. Maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve agreement or solve problems. Develop and maintain relationships with key sector stakeholders which include and is not limited to IESO, utilities inside and outside of Canada, Governments, government agencies, municipalities, and Indigenous Communities. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Education & Specialized Knowledge: Post-Secondary education in relevant field (engineering, science, sustainability, , economics, business administration), or equivalent combination of education and experience. Have knowledge of Energy Markets and its implications on the evolution in the Ontario energy sector. Understanding of current wholesale market and the emergence of the local energy markets Advanced level of proficiency with MS Office applications including Excel spreadsheet and modelling skills. Proficient in project management tools, such as Asana, Microsoft Project, Jira, GitLab, Trello, Azure Dev Ops, etc. Experience Minimum 3-5 years of related work experience is considered necessary to demonstrate the range of duties expected for this position. Familiarity with various services available from flexible resources at the grid edge. Knowledge of DSO and IESO markets, system security, electricity market structures, and transmission/distribution systems. Understanding of Ontario's electricity system, standards, and regulatory framework. Experience in distribution system and/or power system planning and operations. Proven work experience in one or more of the following areas: Transmission, Distribution, Generation, Nuclear, Regulatory, and technology solutions such as OMS, ADMS, DERMS, SCADA, GIS. Experience working in Operation Technology (OT) or Information Technology (IT) in the Utility industry is an asset. Experience working with software projects, software vendor, developers, contract negotiation and management Experience with the development of commercial and market frameworks for flexibility and ancillary services offered to both Distribution System Operators (DSO) and Transmission System Operators (TSO) is an asset. International experience ISO ancillary service tenders/procurement process and DSO flexibility tenders/procurement process is an asset. Demonstrates creative problem-solving skills to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet challenging deadlines while working on multiple projects and initiatives. Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative and collegial working relationships with team members, internal and external stakeholders. Strong oral, written and presentation skills, with the ability to learn, apply and explain information in an organized and concise way. Strong qualitative and quantitative research abilities to assess data and provide clear analysis and recommendations. Self-motivated; ability to work both independently and as a team player. Strong results orientation, with excellent attention to detail. Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license.
