Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Financial Aid Counselor for our client, a prestigious educational institution located in New York City This is a Temp-to-Hire, full-time, onsite position for immediate hire.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Financial Aid Counselor assists students and their families in navigating the financial aid process, advising on funding options, and processing applications. They determine and award financial aid, explain policies, provide financial literacy education, maintain records, ensure compliance with regulations, and conduct outreach activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and respond to inquiries from the financial aid inbox and phone line.
- Maintain the financial aid internal calendar.
- Assist in preparing financial aid award letters for new students and manually adjusting scholarships.
- Help process budget loan increases, summer loan applications, consortium agreements, private and bar study loans, and academic status changes for continuing students.
- Counsel incoming and continuing students on the financial aid process.
- Support the Executive Director of Financial Aid with internal and external reporting.
- Coordinate and oversee the donor scholarship process.
- Participate in admissions and financial services events.
- Perform various projects and duties, including outreach to admitted students, attending recruitment events, providing campus tours, system testing, updates, and training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree required.
- 3+ years of Financial Aid experience needed within higher education.
- Exceptional math aptitude and skill.
- Advanced skills in MS Office Suite.
- Banner, Win SCP, and/or Argos skills get you right to the top
- Strong data collection, interpretation, and analysis skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Proven sound judgment and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Experience managing large volumes of mailings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a friendly, patient, diplomatic, and helpful attitude.
- Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
- Ability to work under pressure and multitask effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
SCHEDULE: the hours are 10am-6pm (M-TH) and 9am-5pm (F). Some rare and scheduled evening and weekend availability required for open houses.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The hourly rate for this role ranges between $30-$32 per hour. You will also be able to receive benefits through Scion Staffing upon eligibility Benefits include medical, dental, vision, voluntary life insurance, an employee assistance plan (EAP), and commuter and transit benefits for those who are working on average 30 or more hours per week. An employee retirement plan is also available.
