Hours of Work : 40 hours/week; Exempt

Salary/Grade : $46,000/year

Job Summary
The Environmental/Remediation Specialist works under the direction of the Orphan Wells Restoration Program Director to act as a landowner liaison for Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas (Division) by communicating with landowners and to obtain Right of Entry (ROE), document priorities for the Divisions consideration to be used by the Division to plan and execute plugging, remediation, and restoration of orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells. This work will be conducted in close partnership with the Division.

Essential Functions of this Position
Obtain signed ROE forms from specific landowners identified by the Division by completing the

following:

Learn and follow the Division ROE Standard Operating Procedure;

Obtain ROEs for properties identified by the Division for the Orphaned and Abandoned Well programs;

Participate in training with ODNR staff or as otherwise approved by the Division regarding the Orphan Well program and Division expectations on communicating with the landowners;

Effectively communicate the parameters of the program and the specifics of each well plugging project in accordance with information provided during Division training;

Answer general questions and concerns of each landowner, consulting with Division staff, as necessary;

Document any specific requests or requirements each individual landowner may have;

Document and communicate Division responses to requests or requirements to landowners;

Provide the plugging and access design to the landowner to confirm that landowner interests are being considered;

Communicate construction and plugging schedules to the landowner;

Provide a monthly written summary of work completed and progress;

Attend the monthly Orphan Well Program meeting (typically virtual) to discuss work completed and progress;

Outreach to local communities to further generate an understanding of the Orphan Well

Program and opportunities.

Obtain Division approval for any materials generated by Rural Action relating to this program;

Incorporate the Divisions program materials into the information that Rural Action provides landowners seeking information from Rural Action about their programs;

Coordinate, participate, and advertise a yearly regional public event (NW, NE, SE) to showcase the program and promote constituent awareness;

Create program awareness through Rural Actions social media after review by the Division;

General Rural Action Duties

Participation in Rural Action events and meetings as needed;

Other duties as assigned;

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in ecology or environmental restoration;

Knowledge of environmental issues, watersheds, and streams;

Knowledge of ODNRs Orphaned and Abandoned Oil and Gas Well Program;

Self-starter with detail-oriented focus;

Excellent communication skills;

Ability and proven experience working with private landowners;

Integrity, credibility and commitment to Rural Actions mission;

Experience with Google suite, Microsoft Word and Excel, database management, email, social media, and other computer software systems;

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed;

Ability to lift 50 lbs, navigate uneven terrain, and complete potentially strenuous tasks and field work;

Valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle;
