We are seeking a Patient Access Representative to join our team in Burlingame, CA. In this role, you will serve as the primary face-to-face point of contact for patients in the Emergency Department. This role involves registering and financially clearing patients for hospital services, ensuring that all necessary patient information is accurately obtained and documented. The ideal candidate will enhance the overall patient experience through excellent customer service and in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system, including services and policies.

Hours:

Variable shifts - Days and nights 8 hours between 6:30 AM - 9:00PM (Every other weekend required)

Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and family members, obtain and verify demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information
  • Perform full patient registration, including entering patient/guarantor information into the patient registration/accounting systems, collecting necessary signatures, and scanning required documents
  • Authenticate and register patients, completing the end-to-end registration process
  • Manage insurance eligibility/benefit verification, referrals, authorizations, and financial education on designated accounts
  • Calculate estimated patient liabilities, collect co-payments, deductibles, and deposits, and process patient payments
  • Refer cases to financial counseling when necessary
  • Support additional tasks such as cashiering, bed management, and handling communications as required

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of recent relevant experience in a healthcare setting, specifically in patient registration, financial counseling, or a similar role
  • Strong understanding of patient access, financial counseling, and insurance/medical terminology
  • Knowledge of EMTALA, Consent Laws, and healthcare compliance regulations
  • Experience using EPIC or other similar electronic health records (EHR) systems is mandatory
