San Antonio Philharmonic Job Description:

Director of Education Reports to Executive Director Organizational Vision Statement The Philharmonic envisions a San Antonio in which every resident has access to high-quality orchestral performances and educational opportunities that reflect the beautiful history, diversity, and culture of our community and beyond. Education Programs Overview A founding principal of the San Antonio Philharmonic is to make quality music accessible and relatable to students within their own communities. During its two first seasons, the Philharmonic orchestra performed for students from local schools representing 22 public school districts, reaching a total audience of approximately 30,000 students. Nearly 60% of the Philharmonic’s performances were dedicated to the mission of engaging children and enriching their lives through symphonic music. In addition, small groups and individual musicians conducting Philharmonic- sponsored education activities impacted an estimated 7,000+ individuals in the community. Current planning for the next Philharmonic seasons features increasingly robust educational programming, including flagship Young People's Concerts (multimedia, full orchestra presentations targeted to grades 3-5) totaling 34 performances for audiences of over 30,000 students. Also projected are G6-12 Discovery Concerts for grades 6-12, six free-admission Open Rehearsals for Students, Family Concerts, multiple master classes presented by guest artists and featuring student performers, and significant individual and student group discounts to weekend Classics concerts. Additionally, the SA Phil plans to partner with multiple school districts, San Antonio Public Libraries, the San Antonio Symphony League, Avenida Guadalupe Association, The Public Theatre of San Antonio, YOSA, Hearts Need Art, local hospitals, and several churches around Bexar County to provide free access to Philharmonic musicians, live music, and mentoring. Job Description Overview The Education Director is responsible for designing, developing and overseeing all Educational programs of the San Antonio Philharmonic in collaboration with other members of the Philharmonic staff, Philharmonic musicians, volunteers, and community partners. The Education Director must be a good steward of the Philharmonic’s resources and seek ways to economize all investments of money and staff time with the goal to achieve the greatest and most meaningful impact.
