RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In addition to the duties of a case manager, the Internship Coordinator will:
  • Establish a rapport with program participants.
  • Serve as primary internship coordinator for the Jill Chaifetz Transfer School; supervise internship advisement and documentation of learn-to-work plans for all students.
  • Assist students in completing employment applications, track and record interns weekly attendance for payroll.
  • Follow up with Alumni up to a year after transition
  • Prepare and facilitate learn-to-work planning workshops after school.
  • Provide academic support to students by pushing into classrooms and collaborating with DOE teachers.
  • Coordinate weekly visits to work sites to meet with onsite supervisors and check in on interns.
  • Collaborate with other BronxWorks sites internship.
  • Assist students with Summer Youth Employment Application process and outside permanent employment placements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate internship program at the Jill Chaifetz Transfer School (JCTS) to ensure that all students receive internship advisement and establish and work steady experience.
  • Supervise the recording and storage of internship plans, assist students with internship applications, employment needed finger printing and continuously assess status.
  • Provide follow-up.
  • Document matriculation status in internship sites.
  • Provide academic and internship counseling, including work-to-learn planning and maintaining contacts with employment sites that allows internships.
  • Conduct and after-school workshops for students. Promote a internship culture at JCTS to support the success of JCTS students.
  • Escort youth if needed to finger printing sites.
  • Develop long lasting relationships with outside agencies and sites to continue internship
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of study.
  • At least 3 years of previous experience providing counseling services
  • Demonstrated interest in working with low-income students with significant hindrances to academic achievement
  • Knowledge of positive youth development principles
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Detail oriented and capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects Proficient in Microsoft Excel or similar data entry software.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study required.
  • At least 3-years experience providing employment services required.
  • At least 2-years experience working with young adult population and strong connections.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and simultaneous projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Internship/Career advising experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish desired, but not necessary.
  • Experience coordinating direct service outreach event/program planning.
  • Experience working with immigrant students and families.
  • Familiarity with NYC Department of Education policies and procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
