Position Overview:


The Time Limited Rental Assistance Future Focus Specialist is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, assisting up to 31 program participants aged 18-24 who are experiencing homelessness. This role focuses on facilitating their transition to permanent housing while providing job training, employment opportunities, and essential life skills.

The Future Focus Specialist adopts a strength-based, trauma-informed approach, tailoring support to each participant's unique interests and abilities.

The Specialist also fosters connections with individuals and organizations that offer educational and vocational support services.

Reports to:
TLRA Program Director

Work Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt

Compensation:
$50,000 to $55,000

Key Responsibilities:

Engage one-on-one with program participants to establish academic and career development objectives based on assessments that highlight their interests and strengths, enabling them to take actionable steps toward their goals.

Connect participants with quality educational institutions, programs, resources, and opportunities aligned with their aspirations.

Facilitate connections to peer support groups that correspond with their needs and objectives.

Assist participants in overcoming challenges while celebrating their achievements.


In cases where a participant faces difficulties in an educational setting, the Specialist will collaborate with them to set new goals and explore alternative opportunities.

Lead or co-lead workshops on various topics related to employment, education, and life skills.

Collaborate with Case Managers, Housing Navigators, and Clinical Social Workers.

Participate in organizational meetings and training sessions as required, as well as any relevant external meetings/training.


Maintain accurate documentation of services and contacts in the GSS program database and other city databases, ensuring timely completion of all required documentation.


Promote and exemplify the 7 Sanctuary Model commitments and the SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss, Future) Model in daily practices to foster a non-violent and trauma-informed environment.

Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Educational Responsibilities:
Re-engage disconnected participants and assist them in re-enrolling in educational settings that align with their individual goals.


Evaluate the compatibility of participants with their current academic environments and facilitate transfers to more suitable programs when necessary.

Review academic records and provide educational advocacy, discussing progress toward educational objectives.

Ensure participants have access to the necessary supports, resources, and accommodations for success.

Expose participants to post-secondary pathways and assist with college applications, opportunity programs, and financial aid processes.


Provide ongoing college persistence coaching, ensuring participants receive the financial and academic support needed for success each semester.

Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders.

Career Development Responsibilities:
Assist in identifying career development experiences that align with participants' interests and academic backgrounds.

Identify potential long-term career pathways based on participants' strengths and vocational plans.

Connect participants to workforce development initiatives, internships, vocational programs, and assist with job applications.

Provide consistent coaching to participants engaged in external programs.

Housing and Independent Living Responsibilities:


Ensure participants coordinate with Housing Navigators and/or Case Managers to submit housing applications promptly.


Work with Housing Navigators and/or Case Managers to support young individuals in securing and maintaining permanent housing while developing essential life skills such as budgeting and landlord advocacy.


Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree is required, along with two years of experience working with at-risk youth.


Applicants must possess a clear understanding of the needs of young adults facing homelessness, with sensitivity to ethnic and cultural differences, as well as an awareness of the LGBTQ community's needs.

Knowledge of the NYC Department of Education, college admissions, and financial aid processes is essential.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail are necessary.

Ability to troubleshoot, advocate, and navigate obstacles effectively.

Capability to collaborate in team settings and build relationships with external partners.

Proficiency in motivational interviewing and trauma-informed techniques is preferred.

Familiarity with databases and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary.

A commitment to a strength-based, trauma-informed, and youth and family development perspective is essential.

Flexible hours are required to ensure accessibility and availability.
