This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose

We seek a highly skilled and experienced Project Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering, science, research, project management, and grant proposal writing background. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can effectively communicate complex technical concepts and research findings to secure funding from various sources. The candidate will closely coordinate with the principal investigator (PI) and Advanced Energy Consortium (AEC) staff to maintain the quality and grow the AEC.

Responsibilities
  • Proposal Development: Identify and analyze funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other organizations. Lead the development, writing, and submission of high-quality grant proposals. Collaborate with research teams to understand project goals, methodologies, and outcomes.

  • Research and Analysis: Evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of proposed projects.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with principal investigators, researchers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary proposal information. Facilitate team communications and lead proposal development activities. Provide regular updates and feedback to project teams and management.

  • Grant Management: Manage multiple grant proposal projects simultaneously, ensuring timely submission of all required documents. Maintain accurate records of all grant activities, including submissions, awards, and reporting requirements.

  • Technical Writing and Documentation: Conduct research to support grant proposals, including literature reviews and data analysis. Translate complex technical and scientific information into clear, compelling narratives. Prepare detailed budgets, timelines, and work plans for grant applications. Ensure compliance with all funding agency guidelines and requirements.

  • Project Management: Organize and lead technical meetings with stakeholders involving the microfabricated and nanosensor project portfolios. Prepare and deliver technical presentations at scientific meetings and invited presentations. Supervise graduate students and post-doctoral researchers as needed. Maintain a robust scientific publication effort. Develop and facilitate a broad range of internal and external stakeholder relationships to build partnerships and lead the commercial adoption of AEC-developed technologies. The hire will be involved with outreach and support AECs new member recruitment efforts.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Geophysics, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in an academic or research environment.

  • Or a masters degree with four years of experience in the above disciplines.

  • Proven track record in product research and development, writing and winning proposals

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be fluent in English (written and verbal)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage research projects from inception to completion

  • Experience in facilitating team communications and providing detailed feedback on project proposals

  • Strong background in science and engineering, including design of experiments, materials characterization, and numerical simulations.

  • Strong analytical and research skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting.

  • The ability to self-motivate and motivate/engage a team

  • Knowledge of advanced mathematical and computational techniques

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Geophysics, or a related field preferred.

  • A minimum of 1 years post-PhD degree experience in an active research/industry collaboration environment

  • Prior experience working for national labs or funding agencies.

  • Grants, fundraising, and stakeholder recruitment experience are highly desired

  • Ability to contribute and communicate across a broad range of subsurface geoscience and engineering discipline boundaries

  • An MBA is desirable

  • Stakeholder management skills

  • Proven ability to negotiate

  • Conflict resolution

  • Startup experience is a significant plus

  • Working with Fortune 500, Developing billion-dollar solutions, leading innovative CO2 reduction or renewable technologies,

  • contributing to industry trade shows, creating newsletters

  • Proven record of successful leadership in a research environment in industry or academia with industry sponsor collaboration

  • Proficiency in computer languages such as Python and MATLAB.

  • Proficiency in engineering software, including Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

  • Familiarity with Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications
