Under the direct supervision of the System Information Supervisor or Lead Data Collection Technician, this position is responsible for the collection of pavement performance related data and pavement deterioration data on all public roadways in the state.

Examples of Work

The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.

  • Operate the Department's ARAN, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Pavement Friction Test, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) van, and various manual pavement testing equipment as necessary.
  • Collect pavement performance data using manual and automated methods.
  • Ensure data collection tools are in good working order and calibrated as necessary.
  • Ensure QC/QA procedures are followed for data collection and reporting.
  • Use microcomputers to collect and upload pavement data to the Department's network.
  • Record various highway condition elements and location data using laptop/tablet computers.


Minimum Requirements

Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a diploma from an accredited high school.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to locate pavement study sections using maps and equipment supplied by the Department. Ability to write legibly and operate computers and computerized equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Basic knowledge of pavement types and pavement distress analysis techniques.

Physical requirements: Demonstrated ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.

Working conditions: Constant statewide travel. ("Constant statewide travel" for this position means overnight travel three or four nights per week, 52 weeks per year with reimbursement for expenses.)

Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver's license.

("Accredited" means the educational institution or program is accredited by an accrediting organization recognized either by the United States Department of Education or by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.)
